This year’s lineup of Samsung foldable phones could be more interesting than last year’s. After months of speculation about a wider variant of the Galaxy Z Fold, the first concrete visuals have appeared online. Android Headlines, in collaboration with well-known leaker OnLeaks, published CAD renders of a device referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. According to available information, this is a direct response to Apple’s upcoming iPhone Fold, which is also expected to adopt a wider format.

Wider design with a dual camera

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide carries the codename H8 and model number SM-F971U. The renders show that Samsung has taken a different approach to dimensions compared to the standard Z Fold 8. The outer display is expected to have a diagonal of 5.4 inches, while the inner flexible panel will be 7.6 inches. Both values are slightly smaller than the classic Z Fold 8, but displays are measured diagonally, and the wider format changes these proportions.

An interesting feature is the vertically oriented dual camera module on the rear, which resembles the Galaxy S25 Edge design. According to the source, this arrangement might cause the phone to wobble when placed on a table. Thus, compared to the full-fledged Z Fold 8, the new device will lose one lens.

Specific dimensions and specifications

Thanks to CAD drawings, we know the exact dimensions of the device. In its unfolded state, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to measure 123.9 × 161.4 × 4.9 mm (4.3 mm without protruding parts). When folded, the dimensions change to 123.9 × 82.2 × 9.8 mm, with the camera module increasing the thickness to up to 14.6 mm.

Hardware-wise, the new device is expected to share its foundation with the standard Z Fold 8. Therefore, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, a battery with a capacity of around 5,000 mAh, and support for 45W wired charging are anticipated. The operating memory should be 12 or 16 GB RAM, and storage options will be 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB.

Price and availability

Minimal information is currently circulating about the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. It is assumed that Samsung will remain in a similar price range as the basic Fold 8, meaning the device could cost around 53 thousand Czech crowns in our market. The reason is reportedly an effort to compete on price with the upcoming iPhone Fold. However, given the absence of one camera, I would personally like to see a lower price tag. We will see how Samsung decides.

The unveiling is expected to take place in summer 2026 at the traditional Unpacked event, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. In recent years, Samsung has chosen July for its summer Unpacked, but given the postponement of the spring event, a shift back to August is not ruled out.

It should be added that the renders are based on CAD drawings, which may not capture all the details of the final product. Minor details such as the exact thickness of the bezels or the placement of the SIM card slot may therefore differ.

Should Samsung offer a wider foldable variant in Europe as well?
