Fans of Xiaomi’s foldable phones are likely to face disappointment this year. According to the latest data from the GSMA database, it appears that the Xiaomi MIX Flip 3 will remain an exclusively Chinese product and will not be released to global markets, including the Czech Republic (reported by XiaomiTime). This represents a significant change in strategy compared to previous models in the MIX Flip series, which typically made their way to international markets.

Database reveals Chinese exclusivity

Two variants of the MIX Flip 3 appeared in the GSMA registration with model designations 2603APX0AC (with satellite connectivity) and 2603EPX2DC (standard version). However, what’s crucial is what’s missing from the database – no global model codes that would indicate preparation for an international launch. Such a procedure strongly suggests that Xiaomi is targeting this generation exclusively at the domestic Chinese market.

The book-style MIX Fold, which is also limited to the Chinese market, regularly faces a similar fate. However, it now appears that Xiaomi re-evaluating its strategy regarding the global distribution of foldable phones, which may be related to more demanding certification processes or limited interest in some markets.

Satellite Connectivity as the Main Innovation

Among the most significant innovations of the MIX Flip 3 will be satellite connectivity, which at least one of the variants will offer. This is a trend we have been observing in high-end smartphones for several years – the ability for emergency communication even in areas without mobile network coverage. Xiaomi is thus keeping pace with competitors like iPhone or Galaxy S Ultra.

Under the hood, the new device is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, which should ensure top-tier performance for 2026. The model’s development codename is “pixiu”, after Chinese mythology, while its predecessor, the MIX Flip 2, bore the codename “bixi”.

Earlier Launch, But Only in China

The model numbering suggests a possible launch as early as March 2026, which would be earlier than the previous two generations of MIX Flip – phones typically hit the market in the summer. A more aggressive timeline may signal Xiaomi’s effort to strengthen its position in the lucrative Chinese foldable phone market.

There are also speculations about a joint launch with the Xiaomi 16 Ultra model, although this information has not yet been confirmed. If it proves true, it would be an interesting marketing strategy connecting flagship models.

Still Waiting for MIX Flip 2 Globally

While the third generation is being speculated about, users outside China are still waiting for the global release of MIX Flip 2. It has been sold in China for several months, but its arrival on international markets, including the Czech Republic, has not yet been confirmed.

The MIX Flip 2 offers a 6.86″ outer AMOLED display with a resolution of 2912×1224 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, while the main 4.01″ outer screen features a resolution of 1392×1208 pixels. Under the hood, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, complemented by up to 16 GB RAM and 1TB storage. Photography is handled by a 50Mpx main sensor with optical stabilization and a 50Mpx telephoto lens with 2x zoom. The battery has a capacity of 4780 mAh with support for 67W fast charging.
