As recently as August, this year’s 98″ Samsung TV cost 49,990 CZK. However, the price has been falling since September, and at the beginning of October, it could be found for 39,990 CZK. With code ALZADNY35, you can now buy the Samsung UE98U9072H on Alza for 32,492 CZK, which is more than a third cheaper than before September. For football, movies, and consoles, you’ll get almost two and a half meters of diagonal screen size.

Quick Summary:
✅ Makes sense if you have a living room where 98 inches won’t get lost, and you want this year’s model with a 120Hz panel for sports, movies, and console gaming.
⚠️ Consider that it’s a classic LED panel without Mini LED, and 20W speakers are barely enough for such a large screen.
💡 For 32,492 CZK, an inch of diagonal screen size comes out to roughly 330 CZK, and Alza also includes free wall mounting with the offer.

Price dropped by over 17 thousand since September

This TV is dropping in price quickly. Until September, it was sold for 49,990 CZK, then the price started to fall, and at the beginning of October, it could be found for 39,990 CZK. With code ALZADNY35, it now costs 32,492 CZK, which is 17,498 CZK less than before September.

Console in 4K and 120 Hz? If the game supports it, yes

On paper, the most interesting feature is the refresh rate. The panel runs at 100/120 Hz, so PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X should be able to handle games in 4K at 120 frames per second, provided the game supports it. Alza lists HDMI 2.1, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and game mode among its gaming features.

Samsung also entices with 4K at 144 Hz or 2K at 240 Hz. However, the footnotes state that these modes only work with a computer, compatible games, and with game mode enabled. So, don’t count on them for consoles.

On 98 inches, poorer image quality will show up much sooner than on a smaller screen. Samsung employs 4K AI Upscaling here, which is designed to bring less sharp content closer to 4K resolution, typically standard TV broadcasts or older series. However, there’s an exception here too: upscaling does not work in game mode or when a computer is connected.

Will it mute roaring stands and leave the commentator?

Samsung is betting heavily on sports with this series. According to the manufacturer, the AI Football Mode is designed to automatically adjust both picture and sound to make colors more vibrant and commentary clearer. More interesting to me is the AI sound setting, which can separate up to three tracks: voice, music, and effects. If noisy crowd disturbs you during a match, you can mute it and leave the commentator loud. However, we cannot independently verify how reliably this works in practice.

The TV runs on the One UI Tizen system with apps like Oneplay, Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, YouTube, and Spotify. For models released in 2026, Samsung promises system updates for seven years, i.e., until 2033. Additionally, the built-in SmartThings hub can control compatible smart home devices. However, some services require a Samsung account, and some also require a subscription.

What to expect with 98 inches?

First and foremost, it’s a classic LED TV, not Mini LED or OLED. Although the description on Alza mistakenly refers to it as OLED in two places, the specifications clearly state it’s an LED panel. Therefore, don’t expect deep blacks in evening scenes like with more expensive series.

The sound is also weaker. 20W speakers are more of an emergency solution for a 249-centimeter diagonal screen. Alza currently lists a Samsung soundbar worth 3,690 CZK as a gift with the TV. However, verify in your cart which model it is and if the gift combines with the discount code. The TV supports Q-Symphony, so it can play together with a compatible Samsung soundbar.

And then there’s the size itself. The screen measures over two meters wide, so measure your wall, doors, and hallway beforehand. Alza offers delivery and wall mounting, which otherwise costs 1,899 CZK and is now free. For a piece this size, that service is definitely useful.

I’d take it for sports and console gaming

The Samsung UE98U9072H is suitable for someone with a large living room who sits far enough from the TV to truly appreciate 98 inches. For 32,492 CZK with code ALZADNY35, you get this year’s model with a 120Hz panel, promised updates for up to seven years, and free installation. If football and console gaming are primary at home, I wouldn’t hesitate long at this price.

Conversely, those primarily concerned with image quality in the dark would opt for a smaller TV with a Mini LED or OLED panel. And for those purely looking for the most inches per crown, the older UE98DU9072 only makes sense if they can get it significantly cheaper on sale.

Would you get a 98-inch TV for your living room, or rather a smaller TV with a better panel?
