The French brand Withings showcased the second generation of its diagnostic scale this January at CES, where we introduced it in detail. However, it’s only now hitting the shelves. The Body Scan 2 is now in stock in the manufacturer’s European store for 499.95 euros, which is approximately 12,100 CZK.

Measures 60 different health indicators

The main advantage of this scale is the number of things it can tell you at once. In just 90 seconds, it collects over 60 different health indicators – from body composition to heart performance and an estimate of vascular health.

Twelve electrodes take care of this: eight are built directly into the glass weighing surface, and another four are located in the removable handle. Thanks to the handle, it also measures the upper half of the body, not just the legs like conventional smart scales – thus, it can divide muscles, fat, and water into up to six body zones. The manufacturer also states that the accuracy of fat measurement corresponds to a clinical DEXA device by 99 percent; however, this is their own internal test, which we cannot independently verify.

How does it differ from an ordinary scale?

The device introduces several features that, according to the company, have not been available on home scales before. The most prominent is hypertension risk alert – the scale uses its own algorithm to estimate the risk of high blood pressure, without a cuff. This is not a diagnosis or a measured pressure, but a warning signal intended to prompt you to see a doctor or use a proper blood pressure monitor.

Also added are blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurement and a six-lead ECG, which can alert to irregular heart rhythm. For Withings+ subscribers, the scale will calculate “heart age,” and a glycemic resilience score is also planned, which aims to show how the body handles sugar from food. However, some of the most advanced features are locked behind a paid subscription.

Up to a year of battery life on a single charge

You don’t have to struggle with your phone for results – the removable handle has its own color LCD display, so you see the values immediately during weighing. Additionally, two buttons on the handle are used to answer lifestyle questions.

Data is sent via Wi-Fi to the Withings app; Bluetooth is said to arrive later. According to the manufacturer, the battery lasts up to a year on a single charge, and the scale can distinguish up to eight different household members. Those who don’t want to see their weight on the display will appreciate the Eyes-Closed mode, where only emoticons are shown instead of numbers.

Price and availability

In the brand’s European e-shop, the Body Scan 2 costs 499.95 euros, which is approximately 12,100 CZK, and according to the manufacturer, it is in stock with delivery within a few days. For a scale, this is a significant amount of money, so the device is aimed more at those who monitor their health in depth, rather than for routine morning weighing.

Also, keep in mind that some metrics (heart age, glycemic resilience) only work with a Withings+ subscription. The scale carries CE medical certification, but in the UK and Switzerland, the hypertension alert currently does not function due to local regulations and is expected to be added later. The manufacturer has not yet announced the official Czech price or availability from domestic retailers – for now, you can purchase it through the European store.

Would you pay over 12,000 CZK for a smart scale that can perform over 60 measurements?
