Xiaomi recently launched the anticipated three-member Xiaomi 17 family on the Chinese market, which includes the base model, a Pro variant, and the top-of-the-line Pro Max. However, the tech world’s attention is now turning to the upcoming flagship – the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, whose key camera specifications have just leaked online thanks to the well-known informant Digital Chat Station.

Four cameras with extraordinary resolution

According to leaked information, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a quad rear camera setup, combining one 200Mpx sensor with three 50Mpx sensors. The main camera is expected to offer an exceptionally high dynamic range, while the periscope telephoto lens will utilize entirely new optical technology to achieve even better results when photographing distant objects.

The setup should include an ultra-wide-angle lens and likely a classic telephoto lens alongside the mentioned periscope solution. Digital Chat Station emphasizes that the cameras represent a significant advancement over the previous Ultra generation, with the main and periscope cameras undergoing fundamental improvements. We should therefore not be misled by the Mpx resolutions, which are expected to remain identical.

Two variants with different features?

Interestingly, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to arrive in two different versions. Both will be equipped with the same sensors and optical technologies, but the higher-end one will reportedly offer additional revolutionary imaging features, which are likely to push the boundaries of mobile photography to an entirely new level. Specific details about these features remain a mystery for now, so we can only speculate on their real benefits. Will the more premium version get better AI? Who knows…

According to unconfirmed speculations, the main 200Mpx camera could use a new Sony IMX09E sensor with a size of 1/1.12″, while the longer telephoto lens should get a Samsung HP5 with a resolution of 200 Mpx and a size of 1/1.56″. The shorter telephoto lens and ultra-wide-angle camera could then rely on Samsung JN5 sensors.

What does the current Xiaomi 15 Ultra offer?

As a reminder, the current Xiaomi 15 Ultra features a Leica quad-camera system with a Leica Summilux optical lens. The main camera uses a 1-inch 50Mpx Sony LYT-900 sensor, complemented by a 200Mpx periscope telephoto lens with a sensor size of 1/1.4″, a 50Mpx movable telephoto lens with a 70mm equivalent focal length, and a 50Mpx ultra-wide-angle lens with 14mm coverage. The entire setup offers a focal length range from 14 to 200 mm.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will most likely be unveiled early next year, so there’s still plenty of time to learn more details through further leaks. Personally, I’m particularly curious whether Xiaomi will indeed opt for releasing two different variants with distinct feature sets – and even more so, what the actual differences between them will be.

Are you planning to get the Xiaomi 17 Ultra?
