Not long after the introduction of the more expensive variant OpenWear Stereo Pro (which I am currently testing), Xiaomi decided to significantly reduce the price of the basic model OpenWear Stereo. In the brand’s official e-shop, the open-ear headphones are now available for just 1,299 CZK, which represents a drop of more than half from the original recommended price of 2,999 CZK. For this amount, you get wireless headphones with an unconventional design and interesting features.

Open-ear design with ear hook

The design allows you to perceive ambient sounds while listening to music, which you’ll appreciate during sports or office work. The hook has a smooth profile that minimizes contact with glasses. The surface is made of soft liquid silicone pleasant to the touch.

Hi-Res Audio and sound leakage reduction

The headphones feature a 17 × 12 mm dynamic driver with a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) diaphragm. They support the LHDC codec with up to 96 kHz transmission and have received Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. Xiaomi also integrated a separate 10mm driver for sound leakage reduction, which emits anti-phase waves.

According to measurements by the National Institute of Metrology in China, leakage reduction works at a distance of 25 cm at 50% volume. For phone calls, a dual microphone with an AI algorithm is used to suppress ambient noise.

Battery life and practical features

On a single charge, the headphones can play music for 7.5 hours, and with the charging case, the battery life extends to 38.5 hours. The test was conducted with the AAC codec at 50% volume. The headphones are IP54 certified for dust and splash resistance.

Control is provided by touch surfaces on the headphones – a double tap starts/pauses playback, a triple tap switches tracks. Through the Xiaomi Earbuds app, custom gestures can be set, including launching a voice assistant or taking photos. Selected Xiaomi models support the audio sharing function for connecting two pairs of headphones simultaneously.

Who are OpenWear Stereo suitable for?

The open-ear design makes these headphones an ideal choice for athletes who need to hear surrounding traffic, or for office work where you don’t want to be completely cut off from colleagues. They are also suitable for people who find classic in-ear headphones uncomfortable for long-term wear.

Conversely, they will not satisfy listeners who require strong bass and absolute isolation from the surroundings. An open-ear design can never achieve the bass performance of closed-back headphones.

At the current price of 1,299 CZK, Xiaomi OpenWear Stereo represent an interesting alternative to traditional wireless headphones. They are available in two colors in the official store – Cosmic Gray and Sandstone Beige.

Are you considering buying Xiaomi open-ear headphones at this price?
