Xiaomi's smart aquarium takes care of fish almost by itself. Plus, it's not even that expensive

  • Xiaomi introduced the Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro smart aquarium
  • it feeds the fish, cleans the water, and monitors the temperature practically without your assistance
  • in China, it costs roughly 1,900 crowns when converted, but it is not expected to head to the Czech Republic

Xiaomi’s smart home is expanding with a piece for fish lovers. The new Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro smart aquarium is designed by the manufacturer to reduce maintenance worries as much as possible – from water filtration to feeding and temperature monitoring. Pre-orders in China start at 599 yuan, which is roughly 1,900 Czech crowns.

This is not the brand’s first attempt at an automatic aquarium. We wrote about its very first generation on Svět Androida back in 2023, and the new version now primarily advances filtration and smart features.

How does the smart aquarium ensure clean water?

The heart of the new 31-liter product is a proprietary circulation circuit, through which water gradually flows through several layers of filter materials. According to Xiaomi, these capture impurities step by step and reduce backflow and inefficient cycles that conventional filtration systems struggle with. Additionally, the biological filter cartridge has water directed into a U-shape, so beneficial bacteria have more time to break down impurities.

The filter box itself is divided into layers and physically separates fish excrement and food residues. Several layers of filter floss capture impurities and quickly remove them to keep the water clean. The water supply is handled by a multi-stage chamber with a 5W waterproof expansion port – thanks to it, you can later add a UV lamp or heater without having to rearrange the entire setup.

The water pump is powered by a full-copper four-pole brushless motor with low magnetic loss silicon steel sheets. Xiaomi promises higher flow and quieter operation thanks to a ceramic bearing and noise reduction, but specific values have not yet been provided.

Feeding, display, and mobile control

On the front of the tank, you’ll find a 1.47-inch color LCD display, which shows water temperature, device status, and any notifications. The package also includes an automatic feeder with two modes – manual and smart. You can set the feeding frequency according to the type of fish, so the fish will get their dose even if you’re away for a few days.

Through the Xiaomi Home app, you can feed the fish remotely, switch the pump power, monitor the temperature curve, or turn off the lighting. The aquarium turns itself off when you open the lid and also responds to the Xiao Ai voice assistant. Furthermore, the system can adjust lighting and filtration based on how long the tank has been running, what types of fish you keep, and how many there are.

Xiaomi also thought of the small details: ultra-clear glass, a lid to prevent fish from jumping out, and side ventilation to prevent fogging. If the power goes out, the aquarium can be temporarily powered by a standard power bank via USB.

Price and availability

Xiaomi launched pre-orders in China today for 599 yuan, which is roughly 1,900 Czech crowns when converted; the regular price after the promotion is expected to be 699 yuan (around 2,200 Czech crowns). The official crowdfunding sale will start on August 24, for now only in China. Xiaomi has not yet announced whether the new product will reach the Czech Republic – however, it is not usually the case for similar aquariums.

Do you keep fish at home? Would you entrust their care to a smart aquarium from Xiaomi?
