Xiaomi SkyNomad: a family SUV that transforms into an apartment, cafe, or meeting room inside

  • Xiaomi introduced its second car series, SkyNomad — a family SUV with an exceptionally variable interior
  • The first model, Sky Nomad N90, is designed to transform into a studio, cafe, meeting room, or family playground depending on the seat arrangement
  • For now, it is aimed exclusively at the Chinese market, with a full unveiling planned for July

When a car manufacturer pulls out floor plans like a real estate ad instead of interior photos, it says something. Xiaomi introduced its second model series, SkyNomad, this way, and the message is clear: while the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV brought joy to the driver, this is about everyone sitting inside. The first vehicle in this branch is to be the full-size Sky Nomad N90 — and Xiaomi is selling it more as a living room on wheels than as a car.

A cabin that rearranges according to your mood

The entire concept is based on variability. Thanks to a flat floor and seats with long travel, the cabin is designed to transform according to the situation — a generous space for passengers, luggage, and even a dog while driving, and then a mobile office or relaxation zone after parking. Xiaomi illustrates this with four modes: a studio for one, a cafe for two, a meeting room for three, or a family playground. Leaked photos also show a pass-through front console that can apparently be moved, allowing occupants to freely move between rows. I admit, I find this idea more appealing than another competition for a few extra kilometers of range.

Roof tent and power outlet

The camping vibe is no coincidence — the name “Nomad” explicitly calls for it. One of the features is said to offer an extendable roof tent attachment, and a portable EcoFlow charging station was spotted in the second row. The vehicle was developed on the new Kunlun Architecture platform, whose development began in early 2023 with a single goal: a maximally adaptable interior. According to founder Lei Jun, the entire solution was made possible by three areas where Xiaomi excels — artificial intelligence, smart device ecosystem, and manufacturing technologies. In other words, the car’s space should be defined by software, not the other way around.

This is what the car might look like according to AI:

Beautiful plans, but only for China for now

Now, let’s be realistic. Detailed parameters are largely still in the realm of rumors — a family extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) with an unusually large battery of around 80 kWh is expected, which would make the N90 a serious contender in the trendy large SUV segment. However, no matter how appealing those studios and cafes on wheels sound, there’s one “but”: the SkyNomad series will first be introduced in mainland China and is a long way from European, let alone Czech, customers.

Does a car that transforms into an office and a bedroom make sense to you — or is it just clever marketing?
