According to Xiaomi, the smart home doesn’t end with vacuum cleaners and air purifiers. The company unveiled the Mijia Smart Bathroom Heater P1 Human Sensing Edition in China – a ceiling-mounted bathroom heater that knows you’re inside even when you’re not moving, and operates the light and ventilation itself.

Ceiling units combining heating, a fan, and a light are common equipment in Chinese bathrooms. Xiaomi has several of them in its catalog – we wrote about the original P1 version last March. The new edition with the Human Sensing moniker adds a precise 24GHz radar to the proven base. Unlike conventional motion sensors, this one detects a person even when they are standing still in the shower or relaxing in the bathtub.

You enter the bathroom and it lights up automatically

In practice, it involves three automatics – lighting, ventilation, and shutdown. You enter the bathroom and the light turns on automatically; after you leave, it turns off, ventilation finishes, and the entire unit shuts down. According to the manufacturer, you can adjust the sensitivity and detection range so that the technology doesn’t react to movement behind the door, for example.

Heat is provided by a graphene heating element with a power output of 3,000 W, complemented by a dual-core motor with stepless speed control. The louver at the outlet rotates within a range of 60 to 90 degrees, so the airflow is directed where you need it, and according to Xiaomi, the heater maintains the set temperature without significant fluctuations.

What else can this bathroom heater do?

The ventilation exchanges up to 259 cubic meters of air per hour. Additionally, a built-in volatile substance sensor monitors air quality, and as soon as it detects something in the room, it starts ventilation without waiting for a command. Xiaomi also adds an air sterilization function with an alleged 98% effectiveness.

It also features a retractable light panel with a brightness of up to 1,500 lumens, adjustable color temperature from 3,000 to 6,200 K, and a night mode. You can control the new product with a wireless switch with IPX4 splash resistance, by voice, or from the Xiaomi Home app – as it integrates into the HyperOS Connect ecosystem.

Price and Availability

Sales will kick off with crowdfunding, which, according to IThome, is expected to start on Wednesday, July 22. The introductory price is 999 yuan, which is approximately 3,100 CZK (converted) – the original P1 entered the market 300 yuan more expensive. None of the Mijia bathroom heaters have officially made it to the Czech Republic yet, and there’s no indication that the new product will be an exception.

Would you let radar into your bathroom?
