Xiaomi Watch 5 arrive with Wear OS, a gigantic battery, and a special sensor. The price is more favorable than we expected

In the first half of February, we were the first in the world to exclusively inform you about the specifications of the global version of the Xiaomi Watch 5 smartwatch. The watch is now officially on sale for a more favorable 6,999 CZK. It boasts the Wear OS operating system, an EMG sensor, and an almost unbelievably large battery that promises fantastic endurance.

Wear OS 6 and Google services on your wrist

While the Chinese variant runs on Xiaomi’s proprietary system, the global version for the Czech Republic comes with Google’s Wear OS 6 operating system. This means access to the Google Play Store, optimized apps like Google Calendar, Maps, or YouTube Music, and contactless payments via Google Wallet thanks to the integrated NFC chip.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi Watch 5 are the brand’s first watches with the pre-installed Google Gemini service. The voice assistant thus works directly from your wrist without needing to reach for your phone – whether you need to search for information, set a reminder, or get navigation.

EMG sensor: Hand movement control

The most significant new feature is the EMG sensor (electromyography), which the Xiaomi Watch 5 are the very first smartwatches in the world to feature. The sensor detects electrical signals from hand muscles and converts them into control gestures. You have two universal gestures – double finger clench and double rub – and three customizable ones: finger snap, wrist shake, and wrist rotation.

These gestures can be used to reject a call, snooze an alarm, start a workout, or remotely control the phone’s camera. The feature will be especially appreciated by athletes or anyone who has their hands full.

930 mAh battery

Under the hood, a dual-chip architecture consisting of the main Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor and a low-power BES2800 coprocessor is at work. The main chip, manufactured with a 4nm process, handles more demanding tasks, while the coprocessor ensures continuous health monitoring with minimal power consumption.

The 930 mAh battery contains a 10% silicon-carbon blend, contributing to higher energy density. In smart mode with active Wear OS, the watch lasts up to 6 days; in power-saving mode, the endurance extends to 18 days. Charging occurs via a magnetic connector.

Premium materials and large display

The Xiaomi Watch 5 features a 1.54″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 × 480 pixels and a brightness of 1,500 nits. The bezels around the screen are only 2.6 mm thick, allowing the display to occupy 78.28% of the front surface. The screen is protected by sapphire glass, which is scratch-resistant.

The case is made of 316L stainless steel, and the watch weighs 56 grams without the strap. Dimensions are 47 × 47 × 12.3 mm. 5 ATM water resistance allows for swimming and showering. The fluoro-rubber strap is adjustable within the range of 135–205 mm.

Health features and sports modes

The watch offers a comprehensive set of sensors for health monitoring. In addition to an optical heart rate sensor and SpO2 measurement, an ECG sensor for electrocardiogram recording is also available. A quick health parameter check with a single tap displays an overview within 60 seconds.

For athletes, over 150 modes are available, along with dual-band GNSS supporting five satellite systems for precise positioning even in challenging terrain. The watch also supports offline maps for navigation without a phone connection.

Price and availability in the Czech Republic

The Xiaomi Watch 5 are available in the Czech Republic for 6,999 CZK in two color variants – black (Black) and green (Juniper Green). Compared to our earlier report, where we cited a price of 7,990 CZK based on multiple independent sources, this is a pleasant difference of almost a thousand crowns. The watch is only available in the 47mm size.
