4K at 240 frames per second. Vivo X500 Pro Max revealed what it can shoot

Teasers around Vivo’s upcoming flagship phones are pouring in one after another, and now it’s time for the most interesting part – the first real sample from the new Zeiss camera. Product manager Han Boxiao published a short clip on Weibo shot in 4K at 240 frames per second, which means it’s slowed down eight times.

Brutal 4K/240 video

The predecessor X300 Pro could only manage 120 frames per second in 4K, so this is double. Vivo also promises that thanks to frame interpolation, it will be possible to achieve 4K480 and 4K960, meaning a slowdown of up to thirty-two times. However, it’s worth remembering that interpolated frames are estimated by the software – how well this turns out in practice will only be shown by independent tests, not company samples.

The scene in the clip is cleverly chosen because it shows backlighting – a situation that mobile cameras struggle with the most. However, for now, it is confirmed that Vivo has only confirmed 240 frames for the main camera. The telephoto lens will most likely stop at 4K120, and the wide-angle camera will be even slower.

Two Phones, Two Different Approaches

This year, Vivo will divide its flagship series into two differently sized models. The Pro Max will get a main sensor with three-axis gimbal stabilization and a 200Mpx telephoto lens inherited from the X300 Ultra. The more compact X500 Pro will forgo the gimbal and offer a 64Mpx telephoto lens. Both are expected to feature a 50Mpx Sony Lytia L910 sensor with a 1/1.28-inch diagonal and LOFIC technology, which is designed to significantly help in complex lighting conditions. The Chinese premiere will take place in September, with global versions to follow.
