Foldable phones were long bought for their large display, and the camera was more of a trade-off for the flexible design. The vivo X Fold6, the brand’s first foldable on the Czech market, aims to reverse this rule. It offers a 200Mpx ZEISS camera, according to the manufacturer the very first telephoto lens with ZEISS APO certification in a foldable phone, and a 6900 mAh battery. It is available for pre-order and will hit stores on November 16.

Anyone choosing a camera phone today usually opts for a classic flagship. Foldables had a worse reputation among photographers, and not without reason. A large sensor and telephoto lens are difficult to fit into a body split into two thin halves, so manufacturers often chose a weaker camera setup for flexible models. The X Fold6 takes the opposite approach. The camera was developed in collaboration with ZEISS, with whom vivo has long cooperated on X-series camera phones, and the large foldable display is not just for movies and multitasking, but becomes an integral part of photography.

200 megapixels and ZEISS APO telephoto lens

The main ZEISS camera has a resolution of 200 Mpx and uses a large Samsung HPB sensor, which vivo defined together with Samsung. It is complemented by a ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating, which reduces glare and light flares, and optical stabilization at CIPA 4.5 level. A key role is played by the ZEISS APO periscope telephoto lens with a Sony LYTIA 602 sensor, vivo VCS technology, 3x optical zoom, and a 70mm focal length equivalent. It also handles macro photography with the telephoto lens and up to 100x ZEISS HyperZoom. The setup is completed by a 50Mpx ZEISS ultrawide-angle camera.

Image processing is handled by the vivo Imaging Chip V3+, which, according to the manufacturer, delivers sharper photos, less noise, and lower power consumption. For restless children and pets, there’s Motion Portrait 2.0 mode; Night Flash Portrait with Multi-Focal Zoom Flash handles evening portraits; and Stage Mode, with 4K video at 60 frames per second with Dolby Vision, is ideal for concerts. Furthermore, ZEISS accessories will gradually expand the photographic equipment.

Display as viewfinder and editing suite

What distinguishes the X Fold6 most from classic camera phones is its use of two displays. The inner panel has a diagonal of 8.02 inches, the outer 6.51 inches, and both use 8T LTPO technology with a frequency of 1–120 Hz and local brightness up to 5000 nits. The Left-Screen Preview function shows captured images on the left half of the unfolded display, while the right remains the camera, allowing a series to be checked without interrupting shooting. Split-Screen Preview then offers a smarter way to capture the right moment. The Cover Screen Teleprompter displays text on the outer display when shooting with the rear camera, and the Interactive Cover Screen plays animations on it that attract the attention of children and animals. After shooting, images can be edited in the OriginOS 7 Fold system, which can handle up to four applications simultaneously.

Thin body, large battery, and durability

All this equipment fits into a body that measures 4.4 mm when unfolded and weighs 228 g (Prism Black variant); the Horizon Blue variant is 4.8 mm and 235 g. The BlueVolt battery with a capacity of 6900 mAh uses a 5th-generation silicon anode and 3rd-generation semi-solid technology, which, according to the manufacturer, ensures a reliable power supply even in temperatures down to −20 °C. It can be charged at 80 W wired and 40 W wirelessly; reverse wireless charging is also present. Performance is provided by the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chipset, which vivo developed with MediaTek. Furthermore, the phone meets IPX8 and IPX9 certifications against water and IP5X against dust, so rain won’t surprise the photographer.

The vivo X Fold6 is available for pre-order in the Czech Republic in the 12 GB + 512 GB version and in Prism Black and Horizon Blue colors, and will go on general sale on November 16. The price is 52,999 Kč, and with a discount code, 2,000 Kč can be saved. Until the end of the year, the offer also includes a trade-in discount, an extended three-year warranty, and interest-free installment payments.
