7,500 mAh battery for under five thousand. Redmi 17 4G is already available in Czech stores

Sometimes a manufacturer holds a premiere with a press release and video, other times a phone simply appears in e-shops one day. The latter option happened with the Redmi 17 4G, which appeared in Czech stores and other European markets, including Germany and Spain, without a single word from Xiaomi. We had revealed the price two weeks ago, and it has now been confirmed: 4,799 CZK for the basic configuration.

The battery, for which the whole thing is bought

One parameter stands out above the rest here. A 7,500 mAh battery is extraordinary for a phone under five thousand – typical models in this class hover around five thousand mAh, and even some more expensive flagships remain below the threshold that this Redmi surpasses. Charging handles 45 W, which sounds nice, but with such a capacity, expect more than an hour on the charger. It’s worth noting that its predecessor, the Redmi 15, had 7,000 mAh and charged at only 33 W, so in this regard, it’s a slight improvement.

Behind everything else hides the word “compromise”

But then comes the rest of the features. The MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra processor does not support 5G, so you are limited to 4G. The basic version offers only 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB eMMC storage, with the RAM being a bottleneck in everyday use sooner than the storage capacity. Additionally, the hybrid slot forces you to choose between a second SIM card and a memory card. The rear camera consists of a single 50Mpx sensor; you won’t find any wide-angle lens here.

Large display with lower resolution

The body measures 8.8 mm in thickness and weighs 232 grams, making the Redmi 17 a substantial phone that you’ll feel in your pocket. It houses a 6.9-inch display protected by Gorilla Glass 7i with a 120 Hz refresh rate – so scrolling in the system will remain smooth. It’s worse with sharpness and brightness: the resolution is capped at 1,600 × 720 pixels and maximum brightness at 825 nits, values that will struggle in direct sunlight.

Cheap, but more expensive than last year

And that brings us to an unpleasant comparison. Last year’s Redmi 15 started at 3,999 CZK, and that was for the 6/128 GB configuration – meaning with half more RAM than the cheapest seventeen offers. The new generation has thus become eight hundred crowns more expensive and at the same time reduced the base RAM. For the 256GB version, prepare 5,799 CZK. Anyone looking primarily for battery life and not needing 5G or a sharp display will get a decent mobile. Everyone else should pay a few hundred more and look elsewhere.
