A toothbrush that sees inside your mouth. Dyson introduced CameraJet after six years of development, we know the Czech price

Dyson made a name for itself with vacuum cleaners and hair dryers, and now it’s heading into the bathroom with something that sounded like an April Fool’s joke. The CameraJet is an electric toothbrush with a built-in camera that searches for gaps between teeth and immediately sprays mouthwash into them. Development took six years and involved 661 engineers.

Twenty-eight frames per second directly in your mouth

Inside sits a macro camera with one hundred thousand pixels, which captures 28 images per second and uses machine learning to search for interdental spaces. Once it recognizes a gap, it shoots a conical stream of mouthwash into it within one hundred milliseconds. Dyson claims that the algorithm was trained on 470 thousand images of dentition and the entire device runs on sixteen million lines of code.

Ověřovat to Dyson musel na vlastnoručně vyvinutém umělém plaku, na kterém spolupracoval s Národní univerzitou v Singapuru.

And now for the less pleasant part

Here, it’s necessary to be specific. For the camera to see, it needs special non-foaming toothpaste from Dyson without a common foaming agent — with ordinary drugstore toothpaste, the system will not work as intended. The mouthwash must also be low-foaming and from the same manufacturer. In addition, each brush head has its own RFID chip, which monitors how many cleanings it has undergone. In other words: you are buying an ecosystem, not just a toothbrush, and you will get consumables wherever they are sold to you.

To Dyson’s credit, privacy is handled reasonably. The camera is active only during live preview or automatic spraying, and according to the company, no images are stored either on the device or in the cloud. Through the app, you can view your mouth just as a dentist would.

How much does it cost? Dyson is silent

Sales started on September 1st and the set includes a toothbrush, a charging stand, a travel case, toothpaste, and mouthwash. It is available in two colors. The price in the Czech Republic starts at 11,499 crowns.
