Sixty-two thousand strokes per minute

Sonic technology works differently from rotary toothbrushes: 62,000 strokes per minute not only clean by touch but also agitate saliva and paste so that bubbles penetrate between teeth and below the gumline. Philips states that this series provides up to twenty times more plaque removal compared to a manual toothbrush and up to fifteen times healthier gums.

However, according to reviewers, the most useful feature is the pressure sensor. Applying too much pressure while brushing is the most common mistake that damages gums long-term – this toothbrush lights up a ring at the base when you press too hard, and you simply ease off. The app also adds a 3D mouth map, which shows which areas you regularly miss, and a TouchUp function for re-cleaning. The Electric Teeth editorial team called this model one of the best toothbrushes they have ever tested.

There are several cleaning modes available – daily clean, whitening, gum care, deep clean, and tongue care – each with three intensities. The Easy-Start program is also practical, gradually increasing power during the first fourteen uses, making the transition from a manual toothbrush less unpleasant. Battery life is up to 14 days, and the package includes a charging travel case, so you only need to take one item on vacation.

What to prepare for

The most important item people underestimate: replacement brush heads. The manufacturer recommends replacing them approximately every three months, and original ones are not cheap – so factor them into your long-term costs, as they will exceed the cost of the toothbrush itself in a few years.

Second thing: the toothbrush is water-resistant, but not waterproof. Philips explicitly states in the manual that it should not be used in the shower or bath – you can, of course, rinse it under running water. Reviews also include minor criticism that the package lacks a brush head stand and a better grip on the handle.

And honestly about the “smart” part: reviewers agree that the app is most useful at the beginning, when you’re learning the correct technique, or when you want to check if children are brushing their teeth. After a few weeks, most people stop opening it – but the pressure sensor and timer continue to work even without the phone.
