Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar are here. AMOLED watch charges from the sun on both sides and lasts up to 51 days

In June, we wrote that the Zepp app revealed new Amazfit solar watches. Now they are officially coming to the Czech Republic. The T-Rex Dual Solar model recharges energy from the sun through the display and through the glass-ceramic back, and the manufacturer calls them the first smartwatches to combine an AMOLED display with dual-sided solar charging. You can already order them on the Czech market, they cost 16,449 CZK.

Two solar panels and up to 51 days of battery life

The front solar layer under the display charges the watch when you wear it. According to Amazfit, three hours a day in the sun (50,000 lux) will extend battery life from 25 to 34 days. More interesting is the glass-ceramic back, whose solar area is roughly twice as large. You can take the watch off, attach it to a backpack, or place it on a rock with the back facing the sun, and with the same three hours a day in the sun, the battery life, according to the manufacturer, extends up to 51 days. For really intensive use, the manufacturer expects 13 days without sun and 18 days when the back panel gets its share of light.

For watches taken off, there is the Solar Boost mode, which switches them to a power-saving state and allows them to gather as much energy as possible. Amazfit promises that the sun can revive even completely discharged watches, so you can at least access the map and route. For multi-day expeditions, there is also the Outdoor Extreme mode, which only runs key outdoor functions including GPS track recording, and the new Expedition activity mode. The battery has a capacity of 660 mAh, and in the most accurate GPS mode, it lasts up to 41 hours. However, all these are manufacturer’s figures, and real battery life will depend mainly on how much sun the watch actually sees.

Titan, sapphire, and a display with 3,000 nits brightness

The display is a 1.32-inch AMOLED with up to 3,000 nits brightness and is protected by sapphire glass. In June, there was speculation about a more power-efficient memory-in-pixel type display, like those found in competitors’ solar watches. The bezel and buttons are made of grade 5 titanium, while the middle part of the case is made of fiber-reinforced polymer. The case measures 51.4 mm and weighs 69 grams without the strap.

The construction has passed six military standard tests, the watch has 10 ATM water resistance and can handle recreational diving up to 50 meters with automatic dive logging. A special mode keeps it running even in freezing temperatures down to −30 °C. It also features a barometer, compass, and a built-in flashlight with white and red light, an enhanced mode, and an SOS signal. According to Amazfit, red light helps maintain night vision.

Maps and location sharing with loved ones

Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar come with pre-installed color maps; contour and ski maps can be downloaded. You can plan routes directly on the watch without a phone, store up to 100 routes in memory, and turn-by-turn navigation is included. The watch can find points of interest, such as a water source or shelter, and a colorful elevation profile shows what ascents and descents await you. Position is handled by dual-band GNSS with support for six satellite systems.

The LiveShare feature sends your current location, direction of movement, and main activity data to family or partners. However, it requires a paired phone with a data connection. Amazfit also warns that it does not replace emergency or rescue devices.

Training, payments, and calls from your wrist

There are over 180 sports modes, including hiking, golf, or HYROX training. The HybridCharge system combines BioCharge, LifeLoad, and training load indicators and advises whether it’s better to train or recover. Structured workouts can be imported from TrainingPeaks, Runna, and Intervals.icu, and completed activities automatically sync with Strava. The watch also connects with external heart rate sensors, the Stryd running footpod, compatible action cameras, or air quality meters. According to Amazfit, the Zepp app does not require any subscription.

For everyday use, there’s NFC and Zepp Pay, into which you can upload up to eight cards. Payments run through the Curve service and participating banks; the Czech Republic is among the supported countries. Thanks to the microphone and speaker, you can receive calls via Bluetooth from a paired phone. The package includes a silicone strap and a charging cradle with a USB-C connector, but you’ll need to provide your own cable.

Price and availability in the Czech Republic

The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar in the Czech Republic costs 16,449 CZK on Alza, the same as from the official distributor. For now, they are only available for order, and Alza will specify the exact delivery date later. For comparison: the T-Rex Ultra 2 started at 13,990 CZK in February, making the new model about 2,500 CZK more expensive.
