The first generation of MacBook Neo quickly became a hit, and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg agency claims that a successor is already in the works. The second generation of MacBook Neo could arrive as early as the first half of next year and will bring more modest improvements than a revolution – even so, it’s a reason for anyone considering an affordable MacBook to pay attention for a moment.

New Chipset and More Memory

The biggest change is expected to happen under the hood. The second generation is said to feature the A19 Pro chip, a successor to today’s A18 Pro. In practice, this should mean significantly higher processor and graphics performance without having to resort to more expensive M-series chips. Let’s remember that the current model was based by the manufacturer precisely on a mobile chip from iPhones – and partly thanks to it, its price fit under twenty thousand.

The second new feature is expected to be RAM. The base is set to increase from 8 to 12 GB, meaning those four gigabytes that the current version sometimes lacks. While macOS can manage eight gigabytes of unified memory, you’ll hit a ceiling with dozens of open browser tabs or when working with photos; a higher base will push it further. The fact that memory is getting more expensive is no coincidence – its prices are currently rising across the entire market due to a global crisis.

New colors are also expected. Exactly which ones, no one has specified yet; we only know that additional shades are to be added to the current offering (silver, blush, citrus yellow, and indigo). On the other hand, we know absolutely nothing about the display, battery life, or any potential design changes, so it’s quite possible that the laptop’s body will remain unchanged.

When Will MacBook Neo 2 Arrive?

Gurman did not mention a specific date, but he named the first half of next year as a probable timeframe. That would make sense – the first MacBook Neo arrived this March.

And the price? No one has revealed that for the second generation yet. The current one can serve as a guide: the base model sold from 16,990 Kč, and after the June price increase, officially for 19,990 Kč. Whether the new generation will bring higher specifications and a higher price tag remains to be seen.

Do you think it’s worth waiting for the second generation of MacBook Neo?
