Until now, attention regarding the upcoming MacBook Pro has focused mainly on OLED and touch control. However, the latest leak adds a change that owners would feel with every carry: the laptop is expected to be significantly lighter. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, in his Power On newsletter, describes a redesigned internal layout that is intended to reduce the computer’s weight.

Lighter design starts inside

According to Gurman, Apple has reduced component sizes and changed their arrangement. Earlier reports spoke of a thinner body, and now the promise of easier portability is added. The change is thus not just about how the new MacBook will look on a desk.

However, Gurman does not specify the exact weight or the extent of the saving. So, it is not yet clear how much of a difference a current MacBook Pro owner will actually notice in their backpack.

Especially for people who carry their work laptop daily between home and the office, lower weight might be more appealing than just a thinner design.

Touch-enabled OLED, but still M5 chips

Nevertheless, the display is expected to bring significant innovations: the first MacBook with touch control and Tandem OLED technology is anticipated. The current notch is expected to be replaced by a Dynamic Island. Gurman also mentions macOS adjustments for touch; according to him, Apple is testing the laptops with macOS 27.2.

The redesigned construction is not expected to be linked to a new generation of processors. Reports anticipate the current M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The main draw of this refresh is thus expected to be the screen and the laptop’s design itself.

OLED is expected to be positioned above the current lineup

According to Gurman, Apple plans a launch in October or November. OLED models are expected to be more expensive and higher-end variants positioned above the current MacBook Pros, rather than a simple replacement of the entire lineup with a new design.

Would you appreciate lower weight or a touch-enabled OLED more in a MacBook Pro?
