It’s not often that Apple leaks its own promotional video before a product launch. But that’s exactly what just happened – a short clip was found in the latest beta version of macOS 26.7, definitively confirming that next-generation AirPods headphones will get built-in cameras. The model with internal designation B790 relies on this feature as its main novelty.

Siri, remember this book

A thirteen-second excerpt that appeared on the X network quite clearly demonstrates a usage scenario. In it, Siri offers the user to save an object that caught their attention – in the example, it’s a book – so they can inquire about it later. According to MacRumors, the complete video also addresses headphone settings and even includes a warning for when the camera is covered by hair. This is a detail that says more about the intended way of wearing them than the entire marketing description.

They won’t be for taking photos

A camera on one’s head naturally raises privacy concerns, especially at a time when a similar debate is ongoing around Meta’s smart glasses. However, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is adhering to a strict limitation: the cameras in the headphones will not allow taking photos or videos and will serve exclusively for the Visual Intelligence feature. Whether this will reassure those around is another matter – no one on a tram will know exactly what that lens in your ear is doing.

Only a few weeks left

Exactly what the headphones will be called is not yet clear – names like AirPods Pro 4 or AirPods Ultra are being suggested, but Apple has not confirmed them. The premiere is expected in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series, so we’ll only have to wait a few weeks for official answers. Until then, it remains a leak, although this time originating directly from Apple’s software.

Would you wear headphones with a camera, or is that a step beyond the boundary of privacy for you?
