Affordable home projection gets another addition. Xiaomi, under the Redmi brand, has introduced a pair of projectors – the basic Redmi Projector 5 and the more advanced Redmi Projector 5 Pro – which promise a large image without a large investment. Both are equipped with an articulated stand, so you can place them almost anywhere, and they can automatically adjust the image. Additionally, they can project up to a 120″ image.

The basic model brings FullHD and up to a 120″ image

The basic model comes with an integrated articulated stand, allowing projection not only onto a wall but also onto the ceiling. The manufacturer states a brightness of 400 CVIA lumens and a native resolution of FullHD (1080p). With a projection ratio of 1.2:1, the new device can achieve a diagonal of up to 120 inches. However, the lower brightness suggests that the projector will require a properly darkened room.

Focusing is handled by a ToF laser module, which allows the device to automatically focus and correct keystone distortion; it can also handle side projection up to 20 degrees. Inside, an MT9 series MediaTek chip is ticking, complemented by 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. A Bluetooth controller with voice search, dual-band Wi-Fi, and smart home connectivity via Xiaomi HyperConnect are also included.

Redmi Projector 5 Pro adds 120Hz image and Dolby sound

The Pro version brings a significant leap in parameters. Brightness increases to 1,000 CVIA lumens, HDR10 support is added, and most importantly, a 120Hz refresh rate with a 5ms response time and MEMC frame interpolation – making it equipment much more suitable for gaming or watching sports broadcasts.

The more expensive model features closed optics with an all-glass lens and, according to Xiaomi, will offer a 10% sharper image than its predecessor, which we wrote about last October. Automatic adjustment is handled by a ToF sensor with a camera and artificial intelligence, which, in addition to focusing and image alignment, can adjust colors according to the wall you are projecting onto.

The articulated stand on the higher-end model allows tilting up to 150 degrees and side projection up to 30 degrees. Sound is handled by two 10W speakers complemented by a passive bass radiator and Dolby Audio support. Calculations are performed by a MediaTek MT9660 chip with 2 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. The dual-circuit cooling system keeps noise levels at 28 dB, according to the company. Connectors include HDMI 2.1 with eARC (4K input, 1080p output at 120 Hz), USB 2.0, and a 3.5mm jack, with Wi-Fi 6 handling connectivity.

Price and availability

In China, the basic Redmi Projector 5 starts at 999 yuan, which is approximately 3,100 Czech crowns after conversion. You’ll pay extra for the Pro version – its purchase price is 1,899 yuan, which is around 6,000 CZK after conversion.

Whether any of these projectors will come to the Czech Republic, the manufacturer has not yet said – previous generations of Redmi were not officially sold here, so I wouldn’t count on their arrival too much.
