Google connected AI Mode with apps. Shopping for a barbecue can now be done directly from Search

Google Search has long since stopped responding with just a list of links. Now the company is going a step further and letting AI Mode directly access the apps you use – instead of advice like “here’s how,” it will directly fill your shopping cart, prepare a poster design, or save a playlist. For now, however, only overseas.

What can AI Mode do with connected apps?

Shopping is the most illustrative example. When you request a shopping list for a Saturday barbecue, Search will offer you ingredients and directly transfer them to your cart via the connected Instacart in the app. You then complete the order where you’re used to – saving you mainly from manually retyping items.

The second example focuses on creation. A prompt like “create a flyer design in Canva, retro and in earthy colors” according to Google will return a direct set of templates that can be further worked with. This shortens the path from idea to first draft to a single query.

The third new feature is music. You request a playlist for a celebration or an overview of trends from the last ten years, and AI Mode will compile a list of songs, insert it into the answer as individual song cards, and save it to YouTube Music. From there, you can play it or add it to your library.

How does Search know what you’re planning?

Google isn’t just now adding artificial intelligence to Search – it’s been there for a long time. What’s new is the connection to specific services. At the beginning of the year, AI Mode gained access to Gmail and Google Photos; in recent weeks, Google Drive and Google Calendar have been added. The company calls this package Personal Intelligence.

In practice, this means that if you have a barbecue saved in your calendar, Search will infer the date and number of people from the event and build the shopping list accordingly, without you having to type it into the query. However, no one elaborated in the announcement exactly how Google shares data with partner applications.

When will app integration come to the Czech Republic?

AI Mode itself has been working in the Czech Republic since last October and understands Czech. However, app integration is a different chapter: it is launching only in the United States and only in English, with no date given for other markets.

It must be enabled manually in the connected apps management on myactivity.google.com, where you link your account to the service. Google also adds that it is negotiating with other partners.
