iPhone Air 2 will get at least three improvements. One of them will be truly significant

The original iPhone Air impressed with its record-thin body, but it paid for it with a single camera and a more modest battery. According to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, its successor is expected to mitigate both weaknesses. The iPhone Air 2 will reportedly get an ultrawide sensor, a more powerful chip, and a larger battery. Further leaks also speak of an even thinner body.

Second 48Mpx camera and likely a chip from the iPhone 18 Pro

The biggest new feature is expected to be the camera. The leaker states on the social network Weibo that in addition to the main 48Mpx sensor, a 48Mpx ultrawide camera will also be added. A July leak from Jon Prosser already anticipated two cameras, so the reports align. Digital Chat Station is among the frequently cited Chinese informants; Notebookcheck labels him as reliable.

Under the hood, a 2nm A20 series chip is expected to tick. According to Notebookcheck, it will most likely be the A20 Pro, which Apple introduced in September into the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The battery is also expected to be improved. The leaker did not specify the exact capacity, but earlier speculation mentioned around 3,500 mAh or more, while the first Air has 3,149 mAh. According to other leaks summarized by GSMArena, a proprietary C2 modem and N2 wireless chip will also be included.

Body might get thinner, display reportedly unchanged

According to further leaks, the thickness is expected to decrease to 5.2 mm, which is about 0.4 mm less than the current model. However, it should be noted that Prosser stated 5.6 mm in July, practically the same thickness as today. Sources diverge here for now.

According to the leaker, the display will remain the same size as the first generation. It will be a flat OLED with a 6.55-inch diagonal, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and 1.5K resolution. Thanks to LTPO technology, the refresh rate will continue to adapt to the content, which saves battery life.

Unveiling expected in spring 2027

Apple skipped the basic iPhone this September and postponed its introduction. The iPhone Air 2 should therefore arrive in spring 2027 along with the iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also mentions the same timeframe.
