The AlzaPower Tone Box speaker targets people who want one unit for everything: listening at home, outdoor barbecues, and trips to the cottage. It has an integrated handle, controls directly on the body, and adjustable LED backlighting that you can completely turn off. Additionally, it offers features not always found in cheaper speakers: flash drive playback and a phone charging output.

Key parameters explained simply

Alza emphasizes up to 80 W peak power in the description. However, for an idea of loudness, the continuous 50 W RMS power is more significant. This is sufficient for sound in a garden or living room with a larger group of people. The frequency range starts at 60 Hz, so you’ll hear bass, but the speaker won’t reproduce the deepest tones of electronic music. You can change the sound character with three equalizer modes: Bass, Normal, and Treble.

Connectivity is handled by Bluetooth 6.0, the latest version of the standard with lower power consumption and a more stable connection. The IP66 rating means the speaker is dustproof and resistant to strong jets of water. It will withstand rain in the garden or splashes by the pool. However, do not submerge it in water; for that, it would need IP67 or higher protection.

The 80 W figure applies to peak power. When comparing with competitors, look at the RMS value, which is 50 W for the Tone Box. Keep in mind that on trips, with a weight of over 2 kilograms, it might be a bit cumbersome to carry (so if you’re just going with a small backpack, you’ll probably do better to pack a less powerful model).

When it doesn’t make sense

If you mainly listen to electronic music or hip hop and rely on deep bass, a frequency range starting at 60 Hz might disappoint you. If you’re looking for a speaker for water, a boat, or the shower, opt for a model with IP67 protection, which can survive submersion.
