Northgard: great Android game is temporarily free, how to get it?

If you’re a PC gamer, you’ve almost certainly noticed that Epic regularly gives away free games through its game store. But did you know it does the same on Android? This week, it’s the turn of the excellent real-time strategy (RTS) Northgard.

Northgard is an RTS with an emphasis on resource management

Northgard is a popular strategy game heavily inspired by Norse mythology. You control a Viking clan and try to conquer an as-yet unexplored continent. The game shares many features with typical RTS games like WarCraft, but differs from them with a greater emphasis on resource management and an overall more deliberate pace. In addition, it adds elements of survival games. In winter, you must take care of your clan not only in terms of food – whose production decreases during this season – but also ensure they have enough warmth.

The game map is divided into zones that you must gradually settle to expand your settlement and gain more villagers. You then assign them tasks, from gathering resources to combat. In your way, besides the environment and weather, stand enemies such as wolves, various mythical creatures, and hostile clans. There are several clans in the game, each with its unique mechanics and bonuses.

While the mobile version of Northgard is developed separately, you’ll mostly only notice this in the slower release of additional content through (mostly paid) DLCs. These contain new clans for the game, with the base game including 6 different clans. Apart from these expansions, Northgard is a game without annoying ads or additional microtransactions at every turn. You’ll even find multiplayer here, but it’s not cross-platform play – so you’ll always compete with players of the mobile version of the game. On Google Play, you can purchase the game for 190 CZK or take advantage of Epic’s aforementioned promotion.

How to get Northgard completely free?

To get Northgard completely free, you must first have the Epic Games app installed on your smartphone. However, you won’t find it on Google Play; you’ll need to install it manually from an .apk file downloaded from the Epic Games website. Subsequently, you’ll need an Epic Games Store account to log in. The final step is to claim the game itself from the main menu.

Once you start downloading the game, it will be assigned to your account, and you can then download it anytime for free and repeatedly. Unfortunately, the Epic Games mobile app does not include a library of owned games where you could easily view which games you’ve claimed for free or purchased directly. For repeated installations, you will always have to search for the game in the main store menu.

To get Northgard completely free, you have until June 4th, specifically until 5 PM. After that, another title will replace it in the offer.
