There’s a category of TVs where you don’t buy picture quality, but meters. AlzaPlus+ members can now buy the Sharp 70GL4260E for 12,591 CZK instead of 14,490 CZK, and it offers exactly what you’d expect from this class – 178 centimeters of diagonal, 4K resolution, and Google TV for the price at which 55-inch TVs are usually sold. Don’t expect miracles, but if size is your main concern, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better crown-per-centimeter ratio.

The difference between a fifty-five-inch and a seventy-inch TV is immediately noticeable in the living room, especially with sports and movies, where you suddenly feel like you’re watching a screen instead of a display. Sharp also adds Google TV, a full-fledged system with Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, YouTube, and Czech services like Oneplay or SledováníTV, so you don’t need any extra set-top box. You can control it by voice via Google Assistant and cast content from your phone to the screen via the built-in Chromecast.

A pleasant surprise is the connectivity – four HDMI 2.1 ports mean you can connect a console, set-top box, and soundbar without having to switch anything around. The TV supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10, so movies on Netflix will know to send a better picture, and the sound handles Dolby Atmos. On Alza, Sharp maintains a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 14 customers, which for a cheap TV suggests that people generally got what they expected.

What to expect

Let’s be fair, this isn’t a TV that competes with MiniLED or OLED models. The panel is a classic LED without local dimming, so don’t expect deep blacks in dark scenes, rather a darker gray – most people won’t mind this in the evening gloom, but a connoisseur of quality picture will notice it immediately. A refresh rate of 50/60 Hz is sufficient for movies and regular TV, but PlayStation or Xbox owners won’t be able to utilize the 120 Hz their consoles offer. The 20 W sound is more of an emergency solution for this diagonal size, so plan for a soundbar right away with this TV.

None of this changes the basic calculation, however: if you want the largest possible screen and don’t want to spend thirty thousand on it, this seventy-inch TV is a reasonable compromise, not a trap.
