Gaming subscriptions across the industry are getting more expensive year after year, and now it looks like Sony is also preparing for another wave of price increases. At a closed meeting with investors, the Japanese company openly discussed that it might raise the price of PlayStation Plus again. And since the last adjustments also affected Czech players, we will probably not avoid the upcoming ones either. However, no one has yet stated the exact date or amount – for now, it is more of a signal than an announcement.

Sony wants to get the most out of subscribers

When asked how quickly and significantly prices could rise, company representatives, according to Insider Gaming, answered evasively, but clearly indicated the direction. „PS Plus offers great value to players, and we constantly measure that against customer-side costs,” it was stated. Sony added that it uses multiple levers to increase profitability – price, the composition of individual tiers, and efficiency in content acquisition.

Between the lines, something even more significant was heard. The company wants to shift its focus from acquiring new subscribers to maximizing value from existing ones. The goal is for every new user to be profitable in the long term – and price is the way to achieve that.

Why now?

The timing is no coincidence. PlayStation 5 console sales are slowing down, partly due to a shortage of memory chips and rising component prices. When hardware sales falter, manufacturers look for money elsewhere – and subscriptions are an ideal place for them.

Furthermore, Sony has long tied the price of PS Plus to the costs of servers and network infrastructure: if these costs rise, subscription fees will also go up. It supports its belief that there is room for this with its own figures. The higher Extra and Premium tiers already account for 40% of all subscribers, and according to the company, the service achieved record profitability in fiscal year 2025.

That playing on PlayStation will no longer be a cheap affair was, after all, shown by recent speculations that the next PlayStation 6 could cost over a thousand dollars.

Current PS Plus prices in the Czech Republic

Before any potential price increase, let’s recall how much you pay for a subscription now. Prices vary by tier and subscription length, with the annual plan, as usual, being the most advantageous.

PlayStation Plus Essential – online multiplayer, monthly games, and store discounts:

  • 259 CZK / month
  • 719 CZK / 3 months
  • 1,880 CZK / 12 months

PlayStation Plus Extra – plus a catalog of hundreds of games and Ubisoft+ Classics:

  • 399 CZK / month
  • 1,149 CZK / 3 months
  • 3,280 CZK / 12 months

PlayStation Plus Premium – plus game classics, game trials, and cloud streaming:

  • 489 CZK / month
  • 1,429 CZK / 3 months
  • 4,000 CZK / 12 months

Just note one detail that directly affects Czech players: from January 2026, PS4 games will only be added to catalogs irregularly. Anyone who likes to revisit older titles should keep this in mind when choosing a tier.

Would you opt for a more expensive PlayStation Plus, or is the subscription already on the edge for you?
