This year, Samsung divided its large foldable into two models, and at its introduction at the end of July, it seemed that the more expensive one would be the flagship. However, information from Korea paints a different picture. According to them, interest is driven by the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold8 with its new, wider shape – and whoever wants one should hurry with their order.

Samsung believed in the new format more than the classic one

The numbers were published by Korean leaker Lanzuk, according to whom the company allocated approximately 2.8 million units for the base model, while only two million for the Fold8 Ultra variant.

Even increased production is reportedly not enough. Pre-orders are said to exceed Samsung’s initial sales estimates, and supplies of some color variants are already running low. The Ultra version is reportedly available without restrictions, which speaks volumes about the demand distribution.

However, these are leaked figures, not official statistics. Samsung itself has not yet released any sales figures, and we cannot independently verify them.

Why are customers opting for the cheaper model?

The main difference between the two foldables lies not in their features, but in their proportions. The Fold8 received an internal 7.6″ display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, so when unfolded, it resembles a small tablet rather than an elongated book, and it cuts off smaller black bars for video. When closed, it is wide and stocky, with a 5.5″ panel on the back.

The Ultra, on the other hand, sticks to the recipe that customers know from previous generations: a 6.5″ outer and 8″ inner display. Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and are the first on the market to feature Android 17 and the One UI 9 overlay.

The price also plays a role. The base model starts in the Czech Republic at 48,999 CZK, while the Ultra will cost you at least 53,999 CZK. A five-thousand crown difference is noticeable for a phone that, in both cases, is priced around fifty thousand.

New models will go on sale soon

Official sales begin on August 7th, but online pre-orders for the Fold8 are reportedly sold out until the second week of August, and operator variants are in a similar situation. According to the leak, brick-and-mortar stores are not expected to receive a significant shipment until early to mid-September.

Would you rather opt for the wider Fold8 or the Ultra version?
