At the end of last month, we reported on speculation that the OnePlus brand might withdraw its activities from Europe and other global markets as early as April. At the time, this was primarily based on claims by insider Yogesh Brar and an unnamed source from 9to5Google. This time, however, the speculation is taking on clearer contours – the company itself admits that it is re-evaluating its European strategy, and at the same time, people who have spent more than ten years in the branch are leaving.

OnePlus Europe officially „re-evaluating“ its direction

Android Authority contacted OnePlus for comment on the ongoing changes and received a rather cautiously worded statement from an unnamed senior executive for the European region. According to him, „OnePlus Europe is re-evaluating its regional plan and product strategy.“ However, the brand assured that service, software updates, and commitments to all users are „fully guaranteed.“

The statement itself does not say that the company is leaving Europe. However, it also does not rule out such a scenario. 9to5Google used a similarly cautious phrasing, suggesting that OnePlus may have advised its employees to present the events at the branch as a planned restructuring. All in the context of other events indicates that the situation is more serious than the company would probably like to admit.

Many senior positions became vacant within a week

The most significant signal is a series of departures of employees from senior positions, which began approximately a week ago. Based on LinkedIn profiles and its own investigation, Android Authority identified several former OnePlus employees:

  • Serban Chiscop – Country Manager for the UK and Spain, spent almost ten years at the company
  • Tania Calheiros – PR Manager for the UK
  • Aske Ryskov Kjær – Senior PR Manager for the EU
  • Dani González – PR Manager for Spain

One former employee, whose name the server did not disclose for legal reasons, described the situation succinctly: „As you can see, virtually the entire European team left the company last week.“ The departing individuals themselves avoided more detailed comments and responded to inquiries by citing legal obligations.

One more move is noteworthy – James Paterson, Senior PR Manager for global agenda, moved to sister brand OPPO after six years at OnePlus. In combination with other departures, this appears to be a transfer of talent back to the parent company.

Signals that cannot be overlooked

Other minor clues also suggest that something is happening with OnePlus’s European presence. The official OnePlus Europe account on the X platform, as Android Authority points out, has not published since July last year. Regional Instagram accounts also appear neglected.

This is linked to events from the Indian branch, about which we wrote in March. Robin Liu quietly left his position as CEO there, who in January still emphatically claimed that the company „is operating normally and will continue to do so.“ Shortly after his departure, OnePlus in India also ended brick-and-mortar distribution and switched to purely online sales.

What does this mean for Czech customers?

It’s too early for specific impacts. OnePlus 15 phones, which arrived in the Czech Republic at the end of last year, are still readily available from domestic retailers. Likewise, there is no indication that anything should change in the short term regarding software updates or warranty service – the company’s official statement in this regard seems quite clear.

However, if OnePlus truly reduces its activities in Europe, it will be a question of how quickly new models will arrive here, whether Czech marketing localization will be maintained, and how well customer communication will work in case of problems.

For anyone currently considering buying a OnePlus phone, there is no immediate risk yet. However, if you expect a long-term relationship with the brand, including convenient service and replacement for a newer model after several years, it makes sense to monitor how the situation develops in the coming weeks. Official confirmation or, conversely, refutation of the speculation could theoretically come at any time.

How would you react to a potential departure of OnePlus from the Czech market?
