Keyboard, mouse, microphone, webcam, and a photo drive. Computer ports are often full before you connect everything you want to use. The ORICO BT2U3-7AB solves this problem: it adds seven USB-A connectors, and you can switch each one off independently. It currently costs 789 CZK including the power adapter on Alza. It’s not a gadget that will impress visitors, but the daily swapping of cables can be much more annoying than a lack of flashy features.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense for: A desk with multiple USB peripherals that you don’t want to reach behind the computer for every time.
⚠ Consider: This is a USB-A hub, not a docking station with HDMI and laptop charging. Speed is shared among devices.
💡 The package includes a power adapter and a one-meter cable for the computer. Alza has a price of 789 CZK, BScom lists the same variant for 840 CZK.

Switches are a better idea than they seem

Each port has its own switch and a blue status indicator. For example, you can disconnect a webcam from your computer without having to unplug its connector every time. It’s equally practical to keep cables organized on your desk and only turn on the accessories you currently need. For an external drive, however, first complete the transfer and safely eject it from the system; the switch is not a substitute for this step.

The body combines aluminum and ABS plastic. With dimensions of 145 × 58 × 26 mm, it takes up a smaller strip of desk space rather than room for another large box. The included cable has USB-A on the computer side and USB-B on the hub side. If your notebook only has USB-C, you’ll need to account for a corresponding data cable or adapter.

Self-powering helps, don’t expect miracles with speed

The included adapter has a power output of 24 W and powers the hub from the electrical grid. Connected peripherals thus do not have to rely solely on power from a single computer USB port. This is especially useful for a setup with external storage and other accessories. However, it does not mean that any number of demanding drives will always run without limitation; their total consumption still has its ceiling.

The data connection operates at speeds of up to 5 Gb/s. However, all ports lead to the computer via a shared connection, so this speed is not available for each drive simultaneously. For normal use with a keyboard, mouse, and occasional file copying, such an expansion makes sense. For simultaneous transfers from several fast SSDs, it is necessary to consider distributing devices among separate computer ports.
