Tesla just launched FSD in Czechia! Self-driving costs 2,400 CZK per month and is supported even by three-year-old models

  • The Ministry of Transport has recognized the Dutch provisional approval of the Tesla FSD Supervised system, allowing its use in Czechia under specified conditions
  • Czechia is the seventh EU country after the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, and Slovenia

Tesla owners in Czechia have finally seen it happen. The Ministry of Transport today recognized the provisional approval of the FSD Supervised system, which was issued by the Dutch RDW authority in April. The advanced driving assistant can thus be legally used on Czech roads under specified conditions starting September 21. Czechia has become the seventh country in the European Union to take this step.

Fully autonomous, but only with you behind the wheel

The Czech name “Fully Autonomous Driving (with supervision)” sounds bolder than reality. Both the Ministry and Tesla explicitly state that it is a Level 2 assistance system according to SAE classification, meaning partial automation. The car can exit a parking spot, change lanes, turn according to navigation, bypass obstacles, and stop at the destination on its own. However, the driver must monitor traffic at all times and be ready to take over control immediately. Responsibility for driving remains fully with them, not with Tesla.

Attention is monitored by an in-cabin camera. In Europe, Tesla also requires watching a tutorial video and completing a short quiz before the first activation.

Months of assessment and one Dutch stamp of approval

The Dutch RDW issued provisional approval on April 10, 2026 after approximately eighteen months of its own testing. Other states can adopt it without the entire process, which is enabled by Article 39 of European Regulation 2018/858, intended for technologies not yet covered by harmonized rules. According to the ministry, the decision was preceded by several months of negotiations with European partners, experts, and Tesla representatives.

According to their own words, officials were mainly interested in adherence to speed limits, reading traffic signs, and how the system compels drivers to pay attention. The controversial speed offset function, which allows setting the driving speed slightly above the permitted limit, was also discussed. This particular feature was the subject of most complaints from regulators in the European debate.

Who will activate it and for how much

FSD Supervised in Europe is only supported by vehicles with the HW4 (AI4) computer, which Tesla has been installing since roughly mid-2023. Older cars with HW3 are out of luck. Tesla canceled the one-time purchase option in Europe this year, leaving only a subscription for 2,400 CZK per month.

Not everyone is applauding

The decision also has its critics. In June, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) called on ministers not to adopt the approval until independent safety data is published. The RDW has not yet released the documentation for its decision, and the Danish automobile club FDM, during its own test, reportedly uncovered a serious flaw in the system’s behavior, according to ETSC. Comprehensive approval for the entire EU is still missing. A technical committee is to decide on it, requiring the support of at least 15 states and 65% of the Union’s population. The current seven countries are far from achieving this.

For Czech owners, today is an important milestone. At the same time, what Tesla itself writes in its update notes holds true: an activated system does not mean the car is autonomous.

Would you entrust driving on Czech roads to the FSD Supervised system?
