Summer can be quite challenging, and you can’t take a desk fan on a tram or to a festival. That’s why Xiaomi is introducing a small item that fits in your palm and backpack – the handheld fan Mijia Handheld Fan, which promises a cooling breeze for up to 40 hours straight.

What the Xiaomi Mijia Handheld Fan offers

At the heart of the fan is a DC motor with a diagonal impeller, which, according to the manufacturer, can move up to 250 cubic meters of air per hour. The maximum airflow speed reaches 8.5 meters per second, and the breeze can reportedly be felt up to a distance of five meters – easily covering an entire couch. Instead of the usual three speeds, it offers continuous power adjustment in one hundred steps, allowing you to fine-tune the wind exactly as you need it.

The currently selected level and remaining battery capacity are shown on a small LED display on the body. Activation is handled by a sliding switch, designed to prevent the device from accidentally turning on in a bag and draining the battery by lunchtime.

Lasts up to 40 hours, but there’s a catch

Inside, there’s a 5,000 mAh battery, which is behind the main marketing appeal – up to 40 hours of battery life on a single charge. This high number only applies to the lowest of the one hundred speeds, where the fan merely hums quietly. Once you increase the speed for proper cooling, the battery life will logically drop significantly.

Charging is handled by a USB-C connector, and you can also replenish power from a standard power bank, so you’re not reliant on an outlet while traveling. The company also promises fast charging – ten minutes with a charger is reportedly enough for about four hours of blowing. The noise level is stated to be up to 69 decibels, which is certainly not a whisper at full power.

Ideal Summer Accessory

Weighing just 260 grams and standing barely 17 centimeters tall, the fan is truly compact. The manufacturer includes a detachable shoulder strap with adjustable length – allowing it to be worn as a crossbody accessory, keeping your hands free at a festival or while waiting at a stop.

Price and Availability

In China, the Mijia Handheld Fan sells for 199 yuan, which is approximately 600 CZK converted. The bad news is that Xiaomi has not yet said a word about its release in the Czech Republic or its price in CZK. Similar small items from the Mijia ecosystem rarely make it here officially, so if you desire the fan, you will likely have to rely on imports from resellers.

Would you take Xiaomi’s pocket fan to summer festivals?
