TP-Link unveiled its first Wi-Fi 8 routers! They offer insane speed, but you probably won't use it

Wi-Fi 7 hasn’t even settled in many homes yet, and the next generation is already here. TP-Link unveiled the Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra, its first routers with Wi-Fi 8 support. This makes them among the very first devices of this type for everyday users.

Eighteen antennas hidden inside the body

The classic Archer 8 Ultra router operates in three bands and houses 18 internal antennas. The combined wireless speed is expected to reach 19 Gbps, a figure that deserves explanation – it’s the sum across all bands, not the speed a single device will see. Wired connectivity handles 10 Gbps.

The Deco 8 Ultra mesh system goes even higher to 22 Gbps, and in a pack of three, it is expected by the manufacturer to cover approximately 900 square meters and serve over two hundred connected devices. For comparison: the previous generation Deco 7 Elite with Wi-Fi 7 managed 20 Gbps and coverage around 840 square meters. The improvement is noticeable, but no revolution.

Do you even have anything to connect?

Soberness is in order here. Devices supporting Wi-Fi 8 are still scarce, and it will be some time before the standard spreads to phones and laptops. So, unless you have a ten-gigabit connection at home and a bunch of fresh hardware, you won’t see the benefits of the new router. Pre-orders will start on September 30th; TP-Link has not announced prices. Other Wi-Fi 8 products are also planned, specifically repeaters and adapters, but these will arrive only during 2027.
