How much electricity does a computer consume during a workday, and how much does a TV consume when nothing is running on it? You can replace estimation with measurement. The TP-Link Tapo P110 smart plug, in addition to switching power, also monitors consumption and its history. Alza is now selling it in a version for the Czech Republic and Slovakia for 319 CZK without a coupon. It’s a small thing that will help you find out something specific about your own household, instead of just watching the total on your bill.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense for: Measuring electronics consumption and regularly turning on a lamp. It doesn’t need a separate hub.
⚠️ Consider: It connects to Wi-Fi in the 2.4 GHz band and is for indoor use. In an extension cord, it might block an adjacent plug.
💡 It’s in stock on Alza for 319 CZK. This is the standard P110 model with consumption measurement.

First, find out the consumption, then it makes sense to change something

In the app, you can see the current power input and consumption over time. Graphs can be browsed by days, months, or years; after entering your tariff, you will also get estimated costs for operating the connected device. For a computer setup, you can compare a workday with the evening when it’s turned off. The smart plug itself doesn’t guarantee savings, but it will show you where to look for them.

You can then use the switching function independently of the measurement. You can set a timer for a lamp, or control it by voice via Google Assistant or Alexa. The app works on both Android and iPhone and offers Czech language support. You don’t have to start building an entire smart home for this.

The maximum load for the European version is 16 A, which is 3,680 W for a resistive load. This figure does not mean unlimited usability for every motor appliance; the connected device must comply with the smart plug’s limits.

Which appliance would you measure the consumption of first?
