Drone flying is becoming an increasingly popular hobby, but a beginner’s journey is often painful – whether it’s the initial investment or the first collision with a wall or tree branch. The DJI brand has decided to break down these barriers with a new series consisting of the Lito 1 and Lito X1 models. Both devices are designed to ease novice pilots into the world of aerial filming thanks to omnidirectional obstacle detection and simultaneously stay below the magical threshold of 249 grams, which in the EU eliminates the need for pilot exams. What’s more, the new products have already arrived on the shelves of Czech stores with relatively affordable prices.

Below the magical 249-gram threshold

A weight under 249 grams is a key parameter for both models, opening the door to the least regulated category within European legislation. Drones in this weight class fall into sub-category A1 and class C0, meaning their pilots do not have to take any exams or professional courses, which is a huge relief for beginners. Registration with the Civil Aviation Authority is, of course, necessary because both drones are equipped with a camera. When folded, both the Lito 1 and Lito X1 fit into a backpack, making them easy to take with you on your travels.

DJI Lito 1: affordable entry into the world of aerial filming

The cheaper of the two, the DJI Lito 1, relies on a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 48 Mpx and an aperture of f/1.8. The drone records 4K video at 60 frames per second, slow-motion footage in 4K at 100 FPS, and captures photos up to 8K resolution. For social media content creators, there’s also vertical shooting in 2.7K resolution, eliminating the need to adjust aspect ratios in editing software.

Safety is handled by an omnidirectional obstacle detection system operating in lighting conditions from 5 lux. The drone thus perceives obstacles in all directions, including above and below, significantly reducing the risk of collision during maneuvering. With the standard Intelligent Flight Battery, it can stay airborne for up to 36 minutes, and image transmission via DJI O4 technology achieves 1080p quality at 60 FPS over a distance of up to 15 km in IC standards (8 km in European CE standards).

DJI Lito X1: premium version with LiDAR

The more expensive sibling, DJI Lito X1, takes specifications up another level. The cornerstone is a larger 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor with 48 Mpx and a brighter f/1.7 aperture, which performs well in low-light conditions. Additionally, it features HDR video with a dynamic range of up to 14 EV and a ten-bit D-Log M format designed for advanced color grading in post-production. In practice, this means you’ll capture significantly higher quality footage with the Lito X1 than with the cheaper model.

A crucial advantage of the Lito X1, however, is its front LiDAR sensor, which complements the standard omnidirectional obstacle detection. Thanks to this pair of sensors, the drone perceives its surroundings much more accurately and can avoid obstacles even in more complex environments that optical cameras might evaluate unreliably. DJI has also equipped the drone with 42GB of internal storage, so you don’t have to worry about a microSD card right out of the box. Transferring the entire 42 GB of data via Wi-Fi 6 takes approximately 14 minutes.

Intelligent flight modes even a layman can handle

A great helping hand for beginners is a set of smart flight modes, which are identical on both models. The ActiveTrack function can track a moving object at speeds up to 12 m/s, so you can easily film yourself while running, cycling, or skiing. QuickShots with predefined movements (Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix) automatically perform impressive shots with a single tap. There are also MasterShots (automatic editing based on scene type), Hyperlapse for time-lapse video, and Panorama for 180°, wide-angle, and spherical shots.

If you’re not confident with controls, DJI offers the DJI Simulator app for Android and iOS, where you can practice flying in a virtual environment. A welcome safety feature is the Return to Home (RTH) function, which in the final phase can retrace the original flight path – this is especially useful in areas with weak GPS signals, such as between tall buildings. Resistance to wind speeds of up to 10.7 m/s (just under 39 km/h) also contributes to stable flight even in less ideal conditions.

Price and availability in the Czech Republic

Both drones from the Lito series are already available on the Czech market, for example, through the Alza e-shop. The complete overview of available variants with prices is as follows:

Fly More Combo packages always include a set of three batteries, a charging hub, and other accessories, which will be especially appreciated by creators planning longer shooting trips. Variants with the DJI RC 2 controller also feature an integrated display, so you can do without a smartphone. The special Fly More Combo Plus version of the Lito X1 comes with an Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, which extends flight time up to 52 minutes. However, this variant weighs 340 grams and thus falls into class C1 in the EU, which entails stricter flying rules – the pilot must already pass an online exam and obtain a certificate.

Who is the Lito series for?

The new Lito series primarily targets beginners, travelers, and social media content creators who want to capture high-quality aerial footage without experience in more demanding piloting. The cheaper Lito 1 at 8,590 CZK makes sense for those who are satisfied with standard 4K video and want to invest as little as possible. The more expensive Lito X1 at 10,590 CZK will appeal to more demanding creators who will appreciate the larger sensor, HDR with 14 EV range, 10-bit D-Log M for post-production, and the front LiDAR enhancing flight safety.

On the other hand, professional creators with higher demands will likely opt for the DJI Mavic or Air series, which offer larger sensors, better lenses, and more advanced features. Within the beginner segment itself, it’s also worth mentioning the DJI Neo 2 starting from €239, which weighs only 151 grams and features the same omnidirectional obstacle detection including LiDAR, but with a smaller 1/2-inch 12Mpx sensor. So, if you’re choosing your first drone, the choice will primarily depend on your budget and image quality requirements – a price tag over 10,000 CZK at the Lito X1 level is not for everyone, although for the given package of capabilities, it’s an interesting offer.
