Xiaomi Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro are officially here. The Pro version has grown and received a larger battery

Along with the flagship phones Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max, Xiaomi also introduced two new tablets in China. The Xiaomi Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro are positioned below the more powerful Pad 9 Pro Max, which was unveiled in early September. While the base model differs little from its predecessor, the Pro version received a larger display, a newer chip, and an 11,000 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Pad 9 received the same chip as last year

The base Xiaomi Pad 9 retains an 11.2-inch LCD with a resolution of 3200 × 2136 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, and a brightness of 800 nits. Inside, it runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the same chip that powered last year’s Pad 8. Thus, the new tablet will not see a performance improvement over its predecessor. This is most likely a consequence of the memory crisis.

The main novelty is the battery, which has grown from 9,200 to 9,720 mAh and charges at 45 W. According to the manufacturer, the tablet is 5.75 mm thin and weighs 485 grams. It offers four speakers, Wi-Fi 7, a 13Mpx rear camera, and an 8Mpx front camera. You can choose from four colors, including pink. The Pad 9 ships with HyperOS 3 from the factory, updating to version 4 only after connecting to the internet.

Pad 9 Pro grew to 12.5 inches

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro underwent a more significant change. Its display grew from 11.2 to 12.5 inches, which, according to Xiaomi, means a quarter larger area than the Pad 8 Pro. The resolution remains 3200 × 2136 pixels at 144 Hz, but the brightness increased to 1,000 nits. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, manufactured with a 3nm process and clocked up to 3.8 GHz, a chip one step below the most powerful Snapdragon Elite series.

The Pro model relies on an 11,000 mAh battery, which you can charge at 67 W. You can also charge other devices from it via cable at 22.5 W. Compared to the base model, it adds six speakers instead of four, a 50Mpx rear camera, a 32Mpx front camera, and a fingerprint reader in the power button, which the cheaper sibling lacks. It weighs 580 grams and is 5.8 mm thin.

Both tablets can also be purchased in an edition with a matte display, which Xiaomi calls Soft Light. The roughened surface with an anti-reflective layer is designed to reflect less light and feel like paper when writing with a stylus. The surcharge is 200 yuan (about 800 CZK including VAT), the edition is only available in some configurations, and the tablet gains 9 grams with it.

How does it compare to the Pad 9 Pro Max model?

At the top of the lineup remains the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max with a 13.3-inch display and its own Xiaomi XRING O3 chip. Compared to the Pad 9 Pro, it offers, among other things, a 12,000 mAh battery and 120W charging, eight speakers, and a DP-in input, allowing it to serve as an external monitor. In China, the Xiaomi Pad 9 starts at approximately 11,600 CZK including VAT (converted). The prices for individual versions are as follows:

• 8/256 GB Soft Light – approximately 13,500 CZK with tax (3,499 yuan)

When choosing, it’s worth knowing that the 128GB versions of both tablets have slower UFS 3.1 storage, while those with 256 GB received UFS 4.1. It’s also interesting that the most equipped Pad 9 Pro costs slightly more than the base Pad 9 Pro Max with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

The exact launch date for European markets is unknown. However, Xiaomi confirmed yesterday that the flagship Xiaomi 18 Pro smartphones will arrive by the end of the year. It is highly probable that the Pad 9 tablets will be globally introduced alongside them.
