Xiaomi Pad 9 is expected to have a larger battery than iPad Pro. But forget about OLED

The outlines of the next generation of tablets from Xiaomi are slowly becoming clearer. Last week, the Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro models passed Chinese 3C certification, which confirmed charging speed, and now leaker Digital Chat Station has added display and battery data on Weibo. The most prominent number is the battery capacity – 9,720 mAh for both variants.

A capacity to boast about

Compared to the outgoing Pad 8 Pro, this is an increase from 9,200 mAh, so the difference is not dramatic. More interesting is the comparison with the competition – the mentioned 9,720 mAh is more than what the iPad Pro offers. However, for a tablet, the number alone only partially determines battery life; chip and system efficiency also play a role, and Apple has long had an advantage in that. Only practical tests will show whether the larger battery translates into longer screen time.

Charging separates the siblings

The difference between the two models lies in charging power. The basic Pad 9 will handle 45 W, while the more expensive Pad 9 Pro will handle 67 W – exactly as indicated by the aforementioned certification. Digital Chat Station previously claimed that the Pro version would get a chip from the Snapdragon 8 family, but has not yet mentioned the specific model.

No OLED this time

Those who hoped for a switch to OLED will be disappointed. According to the leak, both tablets will get an 11.16-inch LCD panel with a resolution referred to as 3.2K and a high refresh rate, with Xiaomi likely marketing the diagonal rounded to 11.2 inches. An LCD in a tablet is not a bad choice in itself – it handles good brightness and colors and is not prone to burn-in – but it simply cannot match OLED in black depth. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed the launch date or prices, so consider all figures preliminary.
