Fries for four people? With a small air fryer, that means cooking twice and letting the first batch get cold. For Black Friday, Alza has now discounted a large Philips model that can handle a much larger batch at once. The Philips 5000 Series Airfryer XXL Connected costs 1,999 CZK instead of 4,999 CZK at the time of writing, meaning it’s discounted by more than half. The manufacturer itself sells it on its e-shop for as much as 5,299 CZK.

The main argument is size. Philips states a pot with a volume of 7.2 liters and a basket that can hold up to 1.4 kg of food. According to the manufacturer, this is enough for up to six servings, so you don’t have to divide a large batch of one meal for the whole family into several rounds. However, keep in mind that hot air cooks thinner layers best, so the actual capacity also depends on what and how high you layer into the basket. In addition to air frying, it can bake, grill, roast, or reheat.

The power input is 2,000 W, the temperature can be set up to 200 °C, and the timer goes up to 180 minutes. There are eight automatic programs to choose from and a keep-warm function, so your food won’t get cold before you sit down to eat. Both the basket and the pot are dishwasher safe.

HomeID App Shows Cooking Progress on Your Phone

The “Connected” attribute means that the air fryer pairs with the HomeID app via Wi-Fi. In it, you’ll find hundreds of recipes, you can monitor the preparation from your phone, and the app will notify you when the food is ready. Of course, you still have to put the ingredients into the basket yourself and take them out.

You can do without the app; the air fryer has its own digital control with a display. However, one customer points out that you can save your own program only through the app, as there is no physical button for it.

A practical note at the end: the power cord is only 0.8 meters long, so the air fryer must be placed close to an outlet. And with dimensions of 41 × 30 × 33 cm, it takes up more counter space than smaller models.

The criticisms are specific. One customer complains that the basket is designed more for height, so not much fits on the bottom, and that the air fryer heats the counter from below. Another misses rails for sliding out the hot pot and a divider that would allow two dishes to be prepared simultaneously. One customer also writes that the times from the preset programs need to be fine-tuned.

When a Different Air Fryer Might Be Better for You

If you often prepare side dishes and meat separately, a model with two baskets, where each section runs with its own temperature and time, would be more suitable. This Philips model has only one basket.

For one or two people, the XXL is unnecessarily large. A small portion will spread thinly in the enormous basket, and as one reviewer points out, for smaller batches, you need to learn to adjust the times and temperatures. Anyone who cooks for a family and wants an air fryer that can prepare a large batch of one meal without dividing it into multiple rounds will hardly go wrong for 1,999 CZK. Conversely, a single-person household or someone who needs two zones will likely find a more suitable and smaller model.
