CapCut Pad is finally available for Android. Editing on a tablet will be as good as on PC, developers claim

Short videos dominate social networks today, and along with them, CapCut has grown, transforming from a simple TikTok add-on into the preferred editing app for millions of creators. Following the December launch of CapCut Pad for Apple iPads, users of Android tablets are finally getting the app adapted for larger touchscreens. It is now available for download on the Play Store, and the creators promise tools and convenience on par with desktop software.

What CapCut Pad can do

The main difference from the mobile version lies in the interface adapted for a larger display. More space is given primarily to the multi-track timeline, where clips, audio, and effects can be layered more precisely. Among the advanced features, the manufacturer highlights keyframe animation, smooth slow-motion shots, chroma key for working with green backgrounds, and stabilization of shaky video.

It also includes AI-powered tools that CapCut offers across platforms. These include automatic captions from recognized speech, text-to-speech conversion, motion tracking in the shot, and one-tap background removal. The app can export the finished video in up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with HDR support, so the output will stand up on YouTube or a larger screen.

CapCut Pad is free, but there’s a catch

You can download and use CapCut Pad for free, but many more appealing features are hidden behind the CapCut Pro subscription. This is a bit of a tricky point in itself. CapCut does not publicly state a fixed price anywhere; it only displays it directly in the app based on region and device. The mobile Pro version costs approximately 10 dollars per month, which translates to roughly 210 to 230 CZK. You will only be able to verify the exact amount in Czech crowns after installation.

It’s also important to note that the app is strictly a tablet affair. According to the Play Store, it will not install on regular phones, including models like the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and some markets where CapCut Pad is missing are also left out for now. It requires Android 8.0 or higher to run, and the installation package is almost 500 MB. It’s also worth mentioning that the app is backed by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, which is good to know for anyone who monitors where their data goes.

Who is the new app for?

CapCut Pad will be especially appreciated by creators of short videos for Reels, Shorts, and TikTok who already use CapCut on their phones and want a more comfortable editing studio on a larger tablet screen. For them, the transition is natural, and project sharing between devices works. Conversely, those who mind the paid subscription for the best features, or who are looking for a full-fledged replacement for a desktop editor, will likely opt for tools like LumaFusion, which requires only a one-time payment.
