Final farewell to OxygenOS and RealmeUI? Future versions might not see the light of day

According to a reliable source, OxygenOS and RealmeUI are soon to cease to exist, with ColorOS taking their place. For some, this might be surprising news, but if you’re interested in smartphones from the BBK Group, it’s an expected step. After all, Pete Lau himself announced that OxygenOS and ColorOS would gradually merge five years ago. This process should now be completed.

Not just OxygenOS and RealmeUI are disappearing

For users of Realme smartphones, this will probably not be a fundamental change; after all, RealmeUI has long been a version of ColorOS with slightly different visual elements and some stripped-down features. OxygenOS in OnePlus phones has also significantly approached Oppo’s software over the years, yet there are significantly more differences, and long-time fans of the brand might find the change a bit harder to swallow. In essence, however, the merger of largely similar overlays makes sense, if only considering the potential acceleration of development and, above all, cost savings.

However, this is not the only aspect accompanying this change. As has long been rumored in internet circles, OnePlus is on its last legs in most foreign markets and will become an exclusive affair for the domestic market and India in the future. In contrast, Realme should leave its domestic market and venture into the world alongside a significantly strengthened international presence of the Oppo brand, which will thus be the only one among these three brands to truly play the role of a global player.
