Google Home Speaker unveiled: the first smart speaker powered by Gemini AI

After a long, almost six, years since the last smart speaker was introduced, Google is coming out with a new model. Simply named Google Home Speaker, it represents the first audio device that natively integrates the Gemini for Home voice assistant. You can pre-order it now.

Natural Conversation First

The main improvement of the brand new Google Home Speaker is, of course, artificial intelligence. Gemini for Home aims to move from rigid and machine-like communication to adaptive human speech processing. The assistant supports multi-step instructions, in-speech corrections, and maintains context. The assistant can also interpret user intent based on logical context, not just selective commands and keywords. Unfortunately, Czech is not among the supported languages.

If you have an active Gemini subscription, you can also use its extended features in conjunction with the Google Home Speaker. Primarily for two-way real-time conversation and seamless topic changes. The assistant can even describe specific events captured by Nest cameras, including verifying the current status. This way, you can easily check, for example, the security of a given area, or you can ask what your pet is doing.specified time period.

Also Serves as a Home Theater

As for the speaker’s hardware, its almost spherical body provides 360° sound output, so it can evenly cover the given space, no matter how you position or orient it. The speaker is then equipped with several directional microphones, whose DSP can filter out ambient noise and better detect voice.

The option to connect two Google Home Speakers with a Google TV Streamer sounds more than interesting. This way, you can easily get a multi-channel home theater with surround sound. The activation of the speaker and its listening mode is then indicated by an LED ring on its bottom part. Privacy protection is handled at the hardware level – with a switch that physically disconnects the microphones.

The speaker is currently available for pre-order, but distribution in selected markets will begin on June 25th for $99 (approx. 2,100 CZK). Google has not yet revealed when, or if, it will reach our market.
