Meta unveiled Muse Charm. The keychain pendant connects you with an AI agent even without a phone

Meta introduced its personal AI agent Muse and is already preparing its own hardware for it. At Wednesday’s Meta Connect conference, Mark Zuckerberg showcased Muse Charm – a small device with a display that you can hang on your keys and talk to your agent through it without having to pull out your phone. It’s a bit like a Tamagotchi, only instead of a digital pet, artificial intelligence lives inside. It is expected to hit the market this December.

Display, keychain loop, and fingerprint reader

Zuckerberg unveiled the novelty only at the very end of the presentation, although he had been hinting at it the whole time. During a live demonstration, he chatted with his agent, whom he named Agrippa, about a pocket device he was working on. This eventually turned out to be the Charm. Its shape resembles a more robust smartwatch without a strap – most of the front is occupied by a display, and at the top, there’s a loop for a lanyard or keys.

Control is designed to be simple. Just press the fingerprint reader in the upper right corner, and you can start talking immediately. An animated avatar will greet you on the display, which you can swap for another. According to Zuckerberg, the entire Muse, including real-time voice conversation, fit into the pendant, so you don’t have to unlock your phone or open an app.

However, Meta is keeping many essential details to itself for now. Zuckerberg did not reveal how the Charm connects to the internet without a phone. The Verge noticed at least three microphone holes and likely small cameras on the device. A cutout above the display, resembling one, is also visible in the official image, but since Meta has not yet confirmed the specifications, it cannot be said for sure.

Sales to begin before Christmas

The final form is not yet complete. According to Zuckerberg, Meta has produced only a few units so far and is still choosing the surface material. During the presentation, he repeatedly hinted at a transparent cover, under which the device’s internals would be visible.

Nevertheless, sales are expected to begin in time for the December holidays. Meta has not announced the price and promises to share further details later. Muse itself offers both free and paid versions, and Zuckerberg hinted that the company might eventually charge a small fee on purchases the agent handles for the user.

However, Czech interested parties will likely have to wait. Muse is currently only available in North America, and its arrival in Europe is hindered by EU regulations, led by GDPR and the Artificial Intelligence Act. Until the agent itself arrives here, it’s unlikely that Charm will appear in the Czech Republic.

Will it succeed where others have failed?

Meta is entering a category that has not yet been very successful. Standalone AI devices Humane Ai Pin and Rabbit R1 received harsh criticism after their launch in 2024, and Humane completely withdrew its clip-on device from sale a year later. Charm has one advantage over them – it is powered by the same agent as Meta’s smart glasses, so it doesn’t stand alone. It is primarily aimed at those who don’t wear glasses. Zuckerberg called it the fastest way to talk to Muse without them.
