New Xiaomi Mijia Air Pump 3 inflates a quarter faster. It can handle tires, bikes, and balls

A flat tire before a trip, a deflated ball, or a soft bike tire can really mess up plans. Xiaomi has a new answer – the portable compressor Mijia Air Pump 3, which, according to the manufacturer, inflates a quarter faster than the previous generation and fits in the palm of your hand.

According to Xiaomi, the heart of the new product is a more powerful motor and a 21mm cast alloy pressure cylinder. This allows the new model to inflate 25% faster than the previous generation and reach a maximum pressure of 150 psi (approximately 10 bar). How fast is that in practice? The manufacturer states that a 205/55 R16 tire can be inflated from flat to 2.5 bar in about six minutes, while topping up from 2.0 to 2.5 bar takes around 75 seconds – these are, however, values measured by the manufacturer themselves, which we cannot independently verify.

Power is provided by two 2500 mAh lithium batteries, totaling 5000 mAh. On a single charge, they can reportedly inflate a car tire ten times, a road bike tire nineteen times, or a basketball eighty times. It charges via USB-C, but fast charging is absent – a full charge with a standard 5V/2A charger takes around three hours.

Six modes: from car to basketball

The Air Pump 3 offers six preset modes. For cars, it assumes a basic pressure of 2.5 bar (range 1.8–3.5), for motorcycles 2.4 bar, bicycles are preset to 45 psi, electric scooters to 50 psi, and balls to 8 psi. There’s also a custom mode where you can set anything from 3 to 150 psi and save your favorite values. The built-in digital sensor monitors pressure with an accuracy of ±1 psi and self-calibrates upon activation to ensure accuracy even at higher altitudes.

Display, LED light, and one compromise

The new device also features a display that shows the inflation progress in real-time, and a redesigned pressure relief valve for easier pressure adjustment. It also includes an LED light with normal illumination and an SOS emergency mode – appreciated by anyone dealing with a flat tire in the dark by the roadside.

However, several compromises need to be considered. The battery is not replaceable, and the manufacturer advises against opening the device; moreover, the compressor is not waterproof. It can operate in temperatures down to −10 °C, but can only be charged between 5 and 40 °C. Xiaomi mentions that the batteries comply with China’s 100 Wh limit for carry-on luggage, but for air travel, it’s advisable to check your airline’s rules beforehand.

Price and availability

The Mijia Air Pump 3 is being sold in Chinese crowdfunding on the Xiaomi Youpin platform with a recommended price of 199 yuan, roughly 625 CZK when converted; the crowdfunding price is 179 yuan (about 560 CZK). The new product is not officially heading to the Czech Republic, and the brand has not yet announced if or when it will arrive.
