Anyone who has ever rummaged through their backpack for a charger among three tangled cables knows why organizational pouches have become a cult. The benchmark in this category is the Peak Design Tech Pouch for approximately 1,500 CZK. Alza has now introduced its own AlzaGuard Tech Pouch for 499 CZK – and when you compare the specifications side by side, the price difference is more interesting than the difference on paper.

The Battle with Peak Design in Numbers

The similarity is no coincidence. The AlzaGuard measures 24 × 14 × 9 cm and weighs 260 grams, while the American original is 24 × 15 × 10 cm and weighs 288 grams – meaning it’s slightly bulkier and a bit heavier. Both have a water-resistant nylon shell, and both open on three sides. Alza opted for ballistic nylon and YKK zippers, a brand also used by premium backpack manufacturers, and added elastic loops, compartments, and a zippered pocket for memory cards or keys. It can fit a laptop charger, a few cables, a power bank, and headphones – the standard equipment people carry to work today.

What You Pay Extra For with Peak Design

It would be unfair to claim they are identical. Peak Design bases its entire product on foldable origami dividers that expand according to what you put in them and fold into eighteen storage spaces; reviewers consistently cite this as the main reason why the pouch is worth the money. Additionally, it offers a lifetime warranty and attachment points for connecting to backpacks of the same brand. The AlzaGuard has a classic arrangement with loops and pockets, a solution that works but doesn’t adapt to every content as elegantly.

On the other hand – a three-year warranty from Alza is above standard for a product costing five hundred crowns, and the 900 CZK difference is an amount for which you could buy a decent power bank to put into the pouch. If you don’t need to repack your gear for every trip, you get eighty percent of the utility for a third of the price.
