Only one day remains until the unveiling of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series, and the manufacturer traditionally releases teasers revealing what to look forward to. It gradually uncovers one specification after another and has not forgotten the display – which is now designed to ensure that no one peeks over your shoulder at your phone on the tram or in the office. The brand has evidently borrowed the privacy protection feature directly in the panel from Samsung, which integrated it into its top-tier Galaxy S26 Ultra model this year.

Brightness up to 4,000 nits and improved sharpness with lower consumption

Xiaomi calls the display Super Pixel 2.0 and bases it on the new M11 emission system with a new green luminescent material. Thanks to this, the emission efficiency is expected to increase by 20 percent, and the panel is said to light up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness.

The company also promises a so-called full RGB arrangement without losses, which is intended to maintain image sharpness even with consumption corresponding to a more energy-efficient 1.5K panel, although the sharpness itself is said to be comparable to a 2K display.

Protection from prying eyes directly in the panel

However, the biggest draw of the panel is privacy protection built directly into the hardware. In practice, this is an anti-peeping function – the display narrows the viewing angles so that the person next to you will only see a dark area, while the image will appear completely natural to you.

The August leak of the feature, called Smart Privacy Display, already hinted at the software aspect. According to it, you will reportedly be able to sort applications into groups and set your own rules for each – a banking app can thus run in private mode, while for a video, the privacy screen will remain off.

Moreover, the protection is supposed to activate automatically as soon as the phone recognizes a sensitive screen. The leak mentioned four situations: password entry, payments, money transfers, and messages.

What else will Xiaomi 18 Pro offer?

However, a display with enhanced privacy protection is far from everything. The manufacturer previously confirmed that the entire series will run on a 2nm chipset and will feature, in addition to another screen on the back, a pair of 200-megapixel Leica cameras.

Lu Weibing, head of the smartphone division, also admitted that the new generation will be more expensive, but he believes customers will consider the price reasonable. Xiaomi will reveal the specific amounts on stage on September 23 at 1:00 PM our time (7:00 PM in China).

The question remains what percentage of the new features will make it into Xiaomi 18 Pro models sold outside of China. Details will be revealed during the global launch.
