You no longer have to monitor them. Mapy.com now updates offline maps automatically

Anyone who carries offline maps on trips knows the drill: before leaving, you need to check if they are outdated and, if necessary, update them manually. The Mapy.com application takes over this concern from the new version – it updates downloaded offline maps itself, without your intervention.

You no longer have to monitor offline maps at all

The new feature arrived with version 26.9.4 for iPhone and 26.9.5 for Android. According to the description in the app settings, the application updates maps, as soon as new ones are available and the phone is connected to a charger. In practice, this typically happens overnight, and downloading won’t drain your battery during the day.

Immediately below the option, you will find another switch: Download maps only via Wi-Fi. As long as it’s turned on, the application won’t use mobile data for updates, so it won’t deplete your plan. On our phone, it was active after the update.

Regular updates also make sense because Mapy.com continuously improves its data. In August, we wrote that they had completely redesigned tourist routes in Austria. Similar changes will now reach you without you having to monitor anything.

How to revert to manual updates?

Anyone who wants to control downloads, for example, due to storage space, can revert to the original behavior in a few seconds. Just open Settings → Offline maps and in the Updates section, switch the option from Automatically to Manually. You will then update maps manually as before.

Will you let offline maps update automatically, or will you monitor it yourself?
