TVs are getting thinner and it’s noticeable in the speakers. Dialogues get lost under the music, and an explosion in an action movie sounds more like a balloon popping. The cheapest way to better sound is usually a simple soundbar, and one popular Philips model has now been significantly discounted. The Philips TAB4000 with code ALZADNY35 will cost 1,359 CZK instead of 2,090 CZK, which is roughly a third less than it cost throughout September and early October.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense if dialogues get lost on your TV and you want better sound without complicated wiring.
⚠️ Consider that without a subwoofer, bass won’t stand out, and you won’t find an HDMI cable in the package.
💡 For 1,359 CZK you get a stereo soundbar with HDMI ARC, Bluetooth 5.4, a remote control, and a wall mount.

731 CZK Discount and Lowest Price Since August

The ALZADNY35 code reduces the price from 2,090 CZK to 1,359 CZK, so you save 731 CZK. According to HlídačShopů, the soundbar was sold on Alza for 2,090 CZK from the end of August until mid-October, and the promotion runs from October 15th. The original price is therefore not made up, and the discount corresponds to what you were actually paying just a few days ago.

It’s not the absolute cheapest, though. In August, the Philips dropped to 1,045 CZK for about ten days, and otherwise, it regularly returned to promotions over the past year. We wrote about it in May, when it cost 1,487 CZK with a code, so today’s price is a bit better. Those who missed it then don’t have to regret it.

Two Channels, 60 W, and One Cable to the TV

Philips states a maximum power of 60 W, with continuous power being half, i.e., 30 W. The higher number on the box is the peak value; the lower one better indicates how the soundbar typically performs. This is sufficient for a smaller living room or bedroom. It’s a 2.0 stereo soundbar with two channels; a subwoofer is missing from the setup.

It connects to the TV via HDMI ARC, meaning with a single cable. Thanks to the EasyLink function, the soundbar then turns on and off with the TV, and you control the volume with the TV’s remote, so the second remote can stay in the drawer. You can play music from your mobile phone or laptop via Bluetooth 5.4, or from a flash drive in the USB port (MP3, FLAC, and WAV).

Alza states a frequency range of 80–20,000 Hz and writes that it covers the entire audible spectrum. This is not entirely true; the human ear hears from approximately 20 Hz, and the soundbar will not play the deepest bass frequencies below 80 Hz. You can fine-tune the sound with an equalizer featuring four modes for music, movies, spoken word, and sports.

Wall Mount is in the Box, HDMI Cable is Not

According to sellers, the soundbar measures 76 × 10.5 × 6.5 cm and weighs 1.45 kg. You can place it on a table under the TV, or hang it on the wall, because the mounting bracket is included in the package. Further in the box, you will find a remote control with batteries and a power adapter.

What is repeatedly pointed out in reviews is the missing HDMI cable. So, expect to either buy one or dig one up at home. Also, verify in advance that your TV has an HDMI port labeled ARC. Among connections, Alza only lists HDMI, USB, and Bluetooth, and one customer points out that an analog jack is missing. With a very old TV without ARC, connecting it might be tricky.

Customers Praise Price-to-Sound Ratio, Bass Less So

On Alza, the soundbar has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 57 customers, 84% of whom recommend it, and over a thousand units have been sold. Alza reports a return rate of 1.84%. Most often, people write that the sound is noticeably better than from TV speakers, they praise the simple installation, and the fact that the soundbar turns on automatically with the TV.

However, not everyone shares the enthusiasm. Some people complain about weaker bass, which is to be expected from a soundbar without a subwoofer. Two customers also criticize the sound via Bluetooth, one of them comparing it to a heavily compressed MP3. One buyer then writes that the soundbar was definitely not suitable for his living room of over 40 m², but it is sufficient for a 12 m² room.

Not Suitable for a Large Living Room and Powerful Bass

If you have a large room or want to feel the bass in your stomach during movies, you should rather opt for a soundbar with a subwoofer (2.1 setup). Don’t expect a cinema-like experience from a 2.0 soundbar for 1,359 CZK. Those who primarily want a soundbar for music from their mobile phone should be aware that two customers criticize the sound via Bluetooth, and it might disappoint.

Those who already have a TV with good speakers should also be cautious. Several customers write that their LG or Philips TVs sounded comparable, or even clearer.

For 1,359 CZK, it’s Mainly Suitable for a Bedroom and Smaller Living Room

For 1,359 CZK, you get a simple way to improve the sound of a regular TV without cable clutter and complicated setup. It will be most appreciated by those who have a TV in a bedroom or smaller living room and are annoyed by having to increase the volume for every dialogue. Those who want powerful bass or to sound a large space should pay extra for a setup with a subwoofer.

Do you listen to TV through its built-in speakers, or do you already have a soundbar?
