On the subreddit dedicated to Android Auto, in recent days, there has been an outpouring of posts from users who have finally seen Gemini appear on their vehicle’s display. Some state that the new feature arrived with Android Auto 16.4, but it is not clear if this version is a prerequisite.

The main change compared to the classic Google Assistant is a more natural way of conversing. You don’t have to formulate commands exactly according to an expected pattern – Gemini remembers context and can respond to follow-up questions. Additionally, the ability to search Gmail directly from the car or have a custom playlist created has been added.

Not everyone is thrilled

However, user reactions are mixed. While some appreciate the new possibilities, others complain about a loss of functionality compared to the original Assistant. Criticism is primarily directed at issues with the integration of third-party music applications and the overly verbose nature of responses, which can be distracting while driving.
