Huawei introduced the Mate 90 Pro Max in China with a display boasting a peak brightness of up to 12,000 nits. The top-tier model of the new series is also accompanied by a Collector’s Edition, which supports an external photography module with a one-inch sensor. This is the most interesting aspect of the new device: Huawei is expanding its photographic capabilities with a standalone camera separate from the phone’s body, not just another built-in lens.

The one-inch sensor belongs to the module, not the phone

The external module is called Ruiying Z10 and features its own one-inch RYYB sensor. It offers a focal length range of 24 to 240 mm, providing 10x continuous optical zoom, and an aperture of f/2.0 to f/4.5. From a photographic perspective, we believe this is a more interesting part of the new device than the resolution of the built-in cameras themselves. However, the choice depends on the edition: only the Collector’s Edition lists Z10 support.

The phone itself uses a 50Mpx main camera with a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, optical stabilization, and a continuously variable aperture of f/1.4 to f/4.0.

The built-in periscopic telephoto lens features 200 Mpx, 4× optical zoom, and optical stabilization. Its RYYB sensor has the same 1/1.28-inch format as the main camera. The rear setup is complemented by a 40Mpx ultrawide camera and a third-generation Red Maple color sensor. On the front, you’ll find a 13Mpx ultrawide camera and a 3D depth-sensing camera.

Dual-layer OLED boasts a peak brightness of up to 12,000 nits

In addition to its photographic capabilities, the 6.9-inch dual-layer LTPO OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate draws attention. The company states a peak brightness of 12,000 nits for it.

Choosing memory also changes the chip

Regarding configurations, it’s worth noting a difference that isn’t just about memory capacity. Models with 12 GB RAM use Kirin 9050, while others use Kirin 9050 Pro. Therefore, when upgrading to the 16GB variant, you’re not just buying more RAM. The phone runs on HarmonyOS 7.

The battery has a capacity of 6,800 mAh, and the phone supports both 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The features are complemented by an IP69 rating.

Photography kit costs over 75 thousand CZK with VAT

The base Mate 90 Pro Max with 12 GB RAM and 512GB storage costs 9,499 yuan in China, approximately 36,900 CZK after adding 21% VAT. The 16/512 GB variant costs 9,999 yuan, similarly around 38,800 CZK. The Collector’s Edition starts with a 16/512 GB configuration at 10,999 yuan, which is about 42,700 CZK after VAT.

However, for those interested in the one-inch sensor, a different amount is significant: the Collector’s Edition Pro Camera Kit with the Z10 module and other accessories costs 19,499 yuan. This corresponds to approximately 75,700 CZK after VAT.
