Huge Samsung TV with Mini LED got a big discount! It's a brand new product, but it has one flaw

An eighty-five-inch TV with Mini LED backlighting for less than thirty-four thousand sounds like a great offer – and to a large extent, it is. The Samsung UE85M80H now costs 33,990 CZK instead of 46,990 CZK. However, there’s one thing you should know beforehand, as it’s widely discussed on forums.

Mini LED yes, quantum dots no

The M80H series is a new, more affordable line of Mini LED TVs that Samsung introduced this year under the Neo QLED series. It genuinely features Mini LED backlighting – that’s not a marketing trick – but both TechRadar and Tom’s Guide editors consistently point out a key difference: this series lacks quantum dots, a technology that previously defined Samsung’s QLED designation.

What does this mean in practice? Mini LED backlighting will bring deeper blacks and better contrast than ordinary LED TVs, as it can dim individual parts of the picture more precisely. However, quantum dots expand the color gamut, and their absence means less vibrant colors than with more expensive Neo QLED models. Tom’s Guide soberly comments on this: in this price category, they believe it’s more advantageous to have Mini LED contrast than quantum colors – but it’s fair to know what you’re paying for.

The second thing foreign editors point out is the number of HDMI ports: this series has only three instead of the usual four, which can become tight with a console, set-top box, and soundbar. In contrast, Samsung states that the M80H model features Motion Xcelerator with 144 Hz, Vision AI functions, and automatic HDR image enhancement.

When it still makes sense

Despite these reservations, it’s important to see the whole picture: for 33,990 CZK, you are buying 216 centimeters of diagonal, which is roughly 157 CZK per centimeter. TVs with quantum dots and four HDMI ports of this size usually cost more. And the difference between 65 and 85 inches is much more noticeable when watching sports or movies than a subtle difference in color vibrancy.

The Tizen system is one of the fastest and offers a complete Czech app selection, with Samsung promising long-term updates for it. For an 85″ TV, measure your wall and the distance from your couch beforehand (ideally at least three and a half meters) and be aware that you won’t be able to move such a large item by yourself – Alza offers delivery and installation for large TVs.
