IKEA brought the DUBBELKISEL smart transformer to the Czech Republic. It will light up LEDs via Matter for 399 crowns

IKEA is expanding its smart home range with another small item. The DUBBELKISEL transformer is designed to turn ordinary integrated LED lighting into a light that you can control from your phone using a mobile application – but you’ll need a few other things and should be prepared for minor additional costs.

Turns your “dumb” lighting into smart lighting

DUBBELKISEL is essentially a power supply (transformer) for IKEA integrated LED lighting, which also adds smart control. Through the transformer, you can turn the light on, off, and continuously dim it, allowing you to set the atmosphere at home according to the situation. According to the manufacturer, you can connect up to nine luminaires to one unit, as long as their total power consumption does not exceed 30 W – if exceeded, the connected lights will flash as a warning.

Crucially, the device relies on the universal Matter standard, specifically the Matter over Thread variant. This means, according to the manufacturer, you can pair it not only with the IKEA Home smart app but also with other popular smart home systems. The transformer can be hung on the wall or inside a cabinet using two hooks, and its standby power consumption is stated to be less than 0.35 W.

The transformer will not work on its own

The price tag of 399 crowns looks appealing, but the transformer alone won’t light up your home. A FÖRNIMMA cable for 149 crowns, sold separately, is required for power. And if you also want to control the light with a traditional button, factor in a remote control – which is also sold separately.

For DUBBELKISEL to respond to your phone, you need a Thread Border Router in your home, typically the DIRIGERA hub from IKEA (1,990 Kč). Without it, the smart layer remains unused, and the transformer functions only as an ordinary power source. According to IKEA, you can connect up to ten of these transformers in one installation, allowing for more extensive lighting – just be sure to account for the cost of accessories.

For owners of the IKEA ecosystem, this is an inexpensive way to add smart control to lights they already have at home. However, those starting from scratch should factor in the hub and cable – only then does the 399-crown price tag make true sense. Furthermore, according to the product page, availability in the Czech e-shop is still being verified, so you might need to wait a while before ordering.
